He's better than Jim Johnston. I thought of this because I've been trying to find an mp3 of the original "Sexy Boy" with Sherri on vocals. Discuss.

I wouldn't put Hart in Johnston's league. Johnston absolutely destroys him in all facets of music composing.

Jimmy Hart's themes often are more lighthearted or comedic in nature. I think Johnston may be the better choice. However, Jimmy absolutely does not get enough credit for his themes though. Tonight we heard one of his themes, 'Common Man Boogie' aka 'American Dream.'

Jimmy Hart was awesome at writing and recording those Weird Al-esque novelty theme songs like Sexy Boy and the Rougeau's All American Boys. Jimmy had a successful career in music before he got into wrestling (I prefer the Gentrys' version of Cinnamon Girl with Jimmy on lead vocals over Neil Young's original) so I think he might know a thing or two about rock and roll.

I prefer Los Lobos version over both. But that proves the point I'm trying to make. Everyone's ears are different.

Maybe we can get him to write some Wrestlicious style raps for various wrestlers. I'd assume he had some hand in those.

A lot of people probably don't realize how big The Gentrys were. They knocked the Beatles off the top of the charts when nobody else could, and I mean nobody else. I don't think he should lose points for being funny. He's certainly not out of his league compared to Johnston, no offense to the guy saying Johnston "destroys him in every way" but that's such a ridiculous assessment that it's almost not worth acknowledging.

This one almost sounds like it could be a theme for somebody like Dusty Rhodes or The Patriot:

But where did you get this information? The Gentry's never charted higher than #4, and were an opening act. Aside from "Keep on Dancing" (#4), the group never touched the Top 40 again. I think Jimmy Hart is a great musician & lyricist. But none of his musical projects ever dethroned the Beatles from the charts.

My mistake. Jerry Lawler made that claim on TV and I didn't fact check him. Maybe it was a #1 hit in the same way that there were 93,000 people at Wrestlemania III...

Top 5 hit is nothing to sneeze at., though. The Gentrys were more like the Wonders from That Thing You Do without the cool Hollywood story.

About All-American Boys, I heard rumors that the song was originally called All-American Girls, had different lyrics and was to be used by Shane Douglas in a singles push that never was in the late 80's.

Wouldn't be the only time he reused his music with different lyrics. Owen Hart Theme - I Wanna be a HulkamaniacI'm The Man - Legends of WrestlingI'm sure there are more.

Meh, all of us musicians reuse riffs/chords at some point or another. Hopefully, they don't sound as bad as "I wanna be a Hulkamaniac."

Did he write the wonderful 'I'm The Mountie' theme tune?

He did write The Mountie's theme! I'm trying to find more information about which themes he actually wrote. There's a partial list on wikipedia which includes Honky Tonk Man, Jimmy Snuka, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, The Rockers, The Hart Foundation, Crush, the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers, Dusty Rhodes, the Legion of Doom, the Nasty Boys, Ted DiBiase, the Mountie, Hulk Hogan, the nWo Wolfpac, and 3 Count.
