New Rule: If you can get one of these past security, then by all means, you can chant "WHAT?".

Undertaker actually owned the What-ers during his ABA run...
Crowd: "WHAT!?"
Undertaker: "If you sleep with your sister, say "What""
Crowd: "WHA-aaaaaaaaa...."
Undertaker: *Shakes his head*

This doesn't make any sense because seeing a movie or a play is a completely different environment than a wrestling event. His post was satire. He's against it and thinks fans who do it are imbeciles. And he's right. I know it's satire. There is such thing as bad satire.

The only I dislike more than "What" chants are the elitist jackasses who think they are 'above' chanting. When i go to a show, I chant "What." I am not an imbecile and I don't do it to get over. it's fun to chant and if the people at home don't like then that's their problem.

We're trying to hear the wrestlers talk, not to hear people yell a word for no reason because "it's fun". If you think of something clever or funny to chant then cool, go for it, but this What crap has got to stop. It's over ten years old. Do you still say Waaasssup! too?

You're disrupting a part of the show others may want to hear or experience. You're not reacting to a boring part of a show; or showing disdain for a heel. You're hijacking the story being told for no other reason than you just want to. That said, you're absolutely entitled to do it, freedom of speech etc. But it's a dick move. Bottom line.

Yeah, I used to be a defender of the chant, but not anymore. Not anymore.

They were probably inquisitive on why Dusty thought someone is really toughing it out if they "don't have money to pay someone else to mow the lawn".

I'm generally more bored of the "What" chants than anything, but giving that shit to someone like Dusty Rhodes legitimately fumed me. I mean come on, show some goddamned respect.

The only purpose of the 'what' chant is to ruin promos. It does nothing else. It's one of the worst things ever to happen to wrestling.

They were pretty light last night, it wasn't too bad. I'll never like WHAT chants though, it's like something a dumb person would do when they're getting destroyed in an argument. HUH, CAN'T HEAR U, WUT? Even when Austin was saying WHAT a million times a show, it was annoying.
However, I don't think any of these chants, or the JBL/Michael Cole/Jerry chants are really done with the intent to "get over" or ruin the show. It's just a "hey we're all at this wrestling show, let's do the wrestling show chants" thing for most people.

Sure you can still hear them but it totally ruins their flow. It's distracting to the guy trying to do his job. It's akin to heckling a stand up comedian. I'm starting to really hate the Goldberg chants for Ryback too. They were deserved when he was face but he's a totally different character now. 2. Ok. That dude doesn't sound too bright.

I didn't even notice the chants until I read this topic and Brandon Stroud point them out.

Hell, I'm already planning out what sorts of zany chants I might try and get over on the Raw after Mania next year. So yeah, I don't have any problem with the, "What?" chants - I didn't even notice them last night.

What I hate more than the what chant is when wrestlers actively encourage it by leaving a gap between each sentence.

The WHAT!? chants has been going on for years. Fans are going to chant what they want to chant and that's not going to change. They bought a ticket so let them cheer how they want. I just don't get how it's bad that fans are trying to be the show but it's fantastic when they steal the show by doing the Fandango dance or chanting yes. If fans don't chant, then people get mad because there's no reaction and then no one gets over. If it was not for fans chanting what they want, Bryan would be in the midcard if not released by now. He's the champ because the fans care about the guy and that's what the fans want. What else are they going to do when they buy a ticket? Sit quietly and enjoy a good show?

I think it was because everybody was expecting the segment to end with a dusty finish.
In all seriousness, people just get tired of these predictable segments. As much as I love Dusty Rhodes, I would be in the crowd doing the same thing.
It just felt like a melodramatic and the crowd was not having any part of it.
Condemning paying customers who decide to participate in a show that encourages such behavior is a bit silly. They are not trained robots, rather human beings with opinions of their own. It just so happens that they are not as interested in Dusty as you happen to be.
This reminds of a time that the Undertaker was giving a dreadful promo last year that the crowd pooped on and people were saying no one should disrespect someone as tenured as the Undertaker. I do not care how long someone has been doing something, I will let them know if they are doing a bad job!
