It's cool that they wrote this, though I wasn't overly impressed by the article. The photos confirm the obvious: Daniel Bryan looks much better without long hair and the big f***off beard. I was a little surprised there were no pictures of him with Nigel McGuinness, but I can understand WWE using photos of him with Seth Rollings. The article claims Bryan faced Dean Ambrose in Ring of Honor, which I doubt. Maybe they meant DGUSA. I wasn't aware Ambrose ever worked there. Yeah they never faced off in ROH but I'm pretty sure they had a match in one of Gabe's promotions (either DGUSA or EVOLVE) during the period between Bryan being fired and then his return at Summerslam.

The problem is that a silly whimsical name isn't really ideal for a guy who needs to be pushed as a serious top line face. It would be like calling the Macho Man "Old Badger Face", or Hulk Hogan "The Big Golden Gopher". Previous faces all have cool names like The Brahma Bull, the Rattlesnake, the Hardcore Legend etc... "Goatface" just sounds dumb Honestly, Macho was charismatic enough to probably make Old Badger Face work. Besides, Bryan's always come off as the kind of guy that's not afraid to poke fun at himself, which is definitely a big part of his appeal. When a wrestler can't be self deprecating, you wind up with Gunner, and no one wants to be Gunner. Not even Gunner. I don't know who Gunner is but he sounds awful, but as far as DB is concerned, I think his appeal lies in being (unlike Cena) an actual underdog and an everyman that people can relate to. The shoehorned goat/troll elements of his persona are probably the weakest parts of it and the ones that could be cut with no downside. As long as he keeps "YES" and "NO" and trims the beard, he'll be alright.

As far as I know, Ambrose only worked one or two dark matches for ROH, and that's it.
Really, really cool article. I'm looking forward to the next part.

The goat stuff did catch on. Jerry Lawler ramming references down the throat of the audience doesn't count. Signs and chants don't count either?

Aww, we could have had The Daniel Bryan with The Brian Kendrick as a tag team?

Good read, but... Saying Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley played an equal role in ROH's success to Bryan, Punk, and Rollins is like saying Horace Hogan was the key to the success of the nWo. IMO, they should've said Cesaro instead.

IMO, they should've said Cesaro instead. And they mentioned him, too, but I think they just wanted to shoehorn Moxley in there.

Really cool article. Am I alone in thinking the simplicity of his ring gear in ROH looked way better than what he wears now?

Honestly, the only beef I have with the article is how they glossed over 3 years in a single paragraph. They go from his return in 2010 all the way to this year's SummerSlam in the span of 4 or 5 sentences. Other than that, I really dug it.

WWE fans are the WWE Universe. Indy fans are the "Nameless Legions".
I hope we'll see "Nameless Legionnaire" signs in the crowd soon.
Nameless Legion would be a good name for a stable too.
Just saying.

It's cool that they did a two-part story on Daniel Bryan, but I really didn't care for the article, nor the writer's general tone.

They removed the Dean Ambrose/ROH reference from the article.

Really cool article. Am I alone in thinking the simplicity of his ring gear in ROH looked way better than what he wears now? I don't know, I think it worked for ROH, when you look back at NXT footage and his SummerSlam return the simplistic trunks really make him look out of place.
