Maybe it's because I dislike Tenay's bizarre "enthused roboticness" (yeah, I made that up for the occasion), but Tazz, to me, manages to deflect the impact of his gaffes and weird mannerisms with his funny voice. Don't leave me all alone here.

I like him more than Mike Tenay, I'll give you that. When he actually cares and he's calling a good match involving people he likes, he does pretty well at analyzing things. But that situation has become more and more rare.

I think Taz is great, he's just had his ability to care sucked dry by Tenay. He was gold the last two Impacts and it really stuck out to me when Sting got near him with the bat and he coward in fear bringing up the MEM/Aces stuff, only for Tenay to say that never happened and Sting doesn't care about him. You could hear Taz trying not to scream at him right then. Stuff like that has happened so much that I think he has given up which sucks since other than JBL, he has easily been the best color guy in mainstream wrestling over the last decade.

Taz is good when he has chemistry with the announcer. He had that with Joey Styles and with Michael Cole especially. He has no chemistry with Tenay.

Tazz has a bizarre chemistry with some people, he had it with Cole for a long time, had it with Styles and even strangely had this adorably weird chemistry with JR. With Tenay though, he just doesn't have it.

Taz is one of my favorite announcers ever. I like his heel commentary at the moment hes just lacking a good face commentator have chemistry with. i also find him hilarious because he also comes off at least a little bit stupid.

I loved Taz and Cole in the early 2000s. If we're being honest I liked them a whole lot better than JR and King on raw at the time.
I'm sure he'd be at least decent if he wasn't paired up with the dullest man alive.

Taz is atrocious. His work on some of the ONO PPV's were legendary displays of not caring at all and were some of the worst performances ever. Especially on the women's one where he purposely got half the girls names wrong. I'm not even convinced he is watching the show half the time.

IMO he's like an old school birthday party clown that's like pulling endless scarves and making you balloon animals right after you've just been diagnosed with cancer. "Don't watch the show, er, yambags, Michael Cole, er, Mike Tenay." I'll never stop being amused by the fact a guy that was pushed as a wrestling badass has become one of the goofiest, marshmallow commentators ever.

Let's face it though: TNA is super hard to take seriously at times, try as they might.

I think I know what you are trying to say, but all too often Taz makes it sound like the only reason he cares is because it's his job to "sound like he cares". That phoney crap is right up there with Cole's forced laugh or when Lawler has to work a Subway plug into some lame joke. The only difference being they sound lame for a few moments, when Taz will sometimes go entire shows in "Who gives a shit as long as this check clears" mode.

There are two things Taz needs in order to be decent on commentary - to be interested in the match that's going on and to have a co-commentator who is professional about their job. Too often when Taz & Tenay are announcing it becomes painfully obvious that neither of them is that stoked about what's happening in the ring, and that's when they slip into comfortable chumminess. And it's that very same comfortable chumminess that makes them unbearable. I swear sometimes I expect one of them to say "OK, so you bring the beers and I'll order pizza", such is their level of casual detachment from the product they're MEANT to be promoting.
Unless they're both concentrating hard on getting across how special the spectacle in the ring is, they sound infuriatingly unprofessional. But unfortunately they've both been allowed to act in this manner for so long now that they seem to see nothing wrong in it.

I'll second everyone else in saying Taz is fun to listen to when he's working with a competent PBP guy- that being Cole, JR or Joey. He's funny as the Aces & 8s toadie, but it doesn't come off very well when his partner has trouble effectively selling the show, let alone properly engaging him.
