BJ Whitmer has just announced his retirement from in-ring at Death Before Dishonor XI. i think everyone saw that coming but damn does that suck. he was always one of my favorites in ROH and always felt he was under appreciated by the fans, especially in 2007-2008. so here's to you BJ

BJ really tore his body apart wrestling. I thought he was retired awhile back before he returned to ROH, and maybe he was. But with the Haas and Bennett scares in recent years, it's best for him to hang up the boots before he kills himself.

Oh damn. I don't like that I saw the last match of a guy who worked as hard as he did.
Best wishes to BJ in his post-wrestling life.

All the best to BJ, but good Lord, I'm glad he's hanging them up before he kills himself.
Way too many close-calls in his ROH career alone, hopefully he's got some prospects set up to live a nice, comfortable, free from the risk of neck breaking life.
Dude could work well and put together some of the better hardcore matches of the early 2000's, but hopefully he gets to keep himself safe now.

I almost forgot that BJ Whitmer returned to wrestling after taking a long hiatus and (allegedly) gaining and then losing a lot of weight. I recall reading announcements that he was expected to perform at a few CZW shows between 2011 and 2012, but I don't recall many such announcements.
Even though I cheered on CZW during the ROH-CZW feud, I - unlike a lot of the partisan fans in attendance - can appreciate what guys 'from the other side' brought to the table (both within and outside the context of the inter-promotional feud). I remember Whitmer as an incredibly strong and technically sound wrestler who didn't shy away from using extreme manoeuvres and participating in the odd extreme match. The matches he and Jimmy Jacobs had against one another are some of the best matches I've ever seen. My memories of Whitmer may date back prior to his return, but they are largely positive memories.

I am happy he is retiring to protect himself from injury and further damage but as a guy who saw BJ when he was starting in HWA, it is sad as well

The logical side of me thinks "Well that's what happens when you take that many head-first bumps", but a bigger part of me is bummed that he has to give it up.
