See, I have no problem with this. The Cobra is an absurd move to begin with that kills the credibility of any guy that gets beat by it. If you're gonna be a cartoon, go all the way with it and be a f***ing cartoon!!! Ignoring the theatrics and the sock puppet, a striking jab to a nerve, the juggular or the throat is absurd? Considering how both Ziggler and Ryder have, in separate occasions, acted like their legs were paralyzed by the Cobra once they managed to dodge the strike to the neck but still be hit, I think it's well within if not full cartoon, at least Kung Fu movie logic.

Ignoring the theatrics and the sock puppet, a striking jab to a nerve, the juggular or the throat is absurd? ...Is that seriously what it's supposed to be? I honestly never noticed. I haven't seen many people sell it like a shot to the throat. It's listed on Wikipedia as a "Right-handed thrust to an opponent's throat, chest, or face with theatrics". I pick a nerve thrust via how JTG has sold the move in the past.

It was so out of left field, it was hilarious. I went in thinking it was going to be a quick, standard Santino match and then comedy gold happened. Everything Santino related needs to be outrageous and funny. The day Santino becomes SRS is the day he lost his purpose.

Is it presented that way in kayfabe, though? I've yet to hear an announcer say, "Santino hit that deadly strike to the throat!" It's always been put over as an absurd move that's universally mocked.

Matt Striker TRIED one time, but this was when Cole was at his douchiness supreme levels so he interrupted.

I love how wrestling is a universe where attempted murders, public blackmail, anyone beating Brock Lesnar, attempted vehicular homicide, Miz recovering from having his neck/head Pillmanized in a week, HHH getting dropped 20 feet in a car and only having a bandage on his head the next night, people getting screwed over and attacked by people that they trust and yet team with them again a few weeks or months later, Kanetinuity, etc. exist, but it's a comedy match with low card comedy wrestlers that is too unbelievable and takes people out of the show.

Cobra is s deadly move, who cares what it looks like when it's an effective finisher and is perceived as such. Hitting the Cobra = done match.
That's like saying no one should go down to the Peoples Elbow because its 10 seconds of theatrics and a half-assed elbow. And then it won 100s of matches.
This isn't the UFC, most finishers and moves in general are unrealistic but still taken as legit. It just happens that Santino is a comedic wrestler and therefore his theatrics are more exaggerated. Nothing wrong there.
I haven't watched SD! but after this thread I went back and watched the whole show. Santino = draw.

The whole deal did make me wish they would have let Santino do one or two shots in Chikara. The comedy dream team of Colt Cabana, Eric Young and Santino Marella would be quite the dream team. But yeah, I always thought Santino was a big fan of Chikara. I think he stole the saluting headbutt from Soldier Ant.

This could of worked in a backstage segment but to have it go on in the ring is just pathetic.

There's a bunch out there that's just as ridiculous if not more so. Just because we're not discussing them all in this very thread doesn't mean everyone just accepted them.

That's a fair point, but honestly the fact that we all still watch wrestling pretty much means that we have accepted the ridiculousness. The Irish Whip is probably the most ridiculous thing in wrestling but I've never seen a thread about how stupid it is. One of the biggest stars in wrestling history is an undead zombie with magical abilities to control arena lighting but we just accept it. We're probably going to have to agree to disagree on this one though.

Like he goes on, cuts promos about THIS BUSINESS and acts entirely serious but then inexplicably still pulls out the puppet and does the whole setup for the Cobra before hitting it all without acknowledging at all how ridiculous it looks? ...I kind of want to see that. But not on a long term basis.

I enjoyed it. It got a chuckle out of me. I like that the sock is portrayed as somehow being an actual, sentient being.
Next week 3MB should bring a Mongoose to fight the Cobra.

In an ideal wrestling fandom, all of those things would be accepted. The very core element of wrestling is over-the-top wackiness, and segments like these are always needed to balance out the often super serious nature of the show- especially now, as much as I'm enjoying Best For Business. Nobody buys that it's real anymore, so logically there shouldn't be any more limits as to what's too "unbelievable". If I want a simulated sport, I can just go watch a real sport.
