With RVD taking a break could he win and get cashed in on?

I could imagine RVD winning in hard-fought victory only to have it taken away from him by Sandow -- who has been losing left, right & center so he's ready for it.

No disrespect to Sandow, but I feel as if Sandow cashing in the MiTB would be the final nail in the coffin for the World Title. Say what you will about Del Rio, but at least he has main event cred and has proven that he can hang with the big boys. Yes, Sandow had the program with Sheamus, but that felt more like it was made to "Keep Sheamus Relevant Outside of the Title Picture" rather than "Elevate Sandow to Main Event Level". Sandow as World Heavyweight Champion would only serve to fully confirm what we already know, that the World Heavyweight Championship is a glorified upper midcard title.
Not to mention the Corporation storyline taking place on both RAW and SmackDown has served to further diminish the WHC's status. RVD is the current #1 contender, but he's more focused on helping Bryan fight against the Hunner Administration than he is chasing Del Rio.

Honestly, they've made Sandow so pathetic recently that, while he is the best of the three options, there's still basically zero interest there at this point.
Really, in general I wish they'd give the title to someone like Cena (well, not an option right now obviously) or something and just let it ride to build the title back up a bit, because it is amazing how much just over the course of the past six months the thing has basically become less worthwhile than the US title. At least that's being featured in an actual storyline and is connected to the main plot.
Though failing that, I say if you're going to make it an upper midcard title, give it to Cody or Kofi and just let them tear it up on every PPV for a few months against random challengers all across the card. That alone would at least make the segments involving the title, y'know, worth actually watching, because anything is better than it basically just being a prop to Alberto still three years in being involved in the sorts of repetitive squashes you would expect from someone who's only been on the roster for a month.

Del Rio is duller than dishwater, Sandow has been booked like a chump, and its been reported that RVD only has a short term contract.
Best decision? Nobody wins and the title gets scrapped!

Neither. WWE seems to love dragging it out recently.

I love Sandow, but his gimmick is defiantly midcard. I just can't see him being a world champion with that gimmick. It needs some level of evolution, some hint of seriousness and proper wrestling talent to it before he could be a credible world champion.
So yeah he'll probably cash in pretty soon.

I don't even care anymore. Nobody asked you Wade Barrett. Honestly though? They've got a long way to go to make that title look somewhat credible, and no having ADR beat up midcard faces isn't doing it, nor would six months of Sheamus beating ADR like a pinata make it seem like a big deal. A good storyline and a really good heel would help build that thing up tremendesly.

The World Title pretty much only exists to make people look more important than they really are. To make guys look like main eventers when they're really not. WWE needs to re-think the way it pushes talent. They need to think less in terms of trying to make "stars", and more in terms of putting on an entertaining show from top to bottom.

RVD wins
Sandow comes down for the cash in
Rodriguez betrays RVD and aligns with Sandow
Rodriguez begins announcing Sandow and helping a "weak" Champion retain his title through intelligent cheating

I can't buy Sandow as a viable champion at the moment, he's done almost nothing but job once he finished up with Cody and Cody moved up the card. If he gets it any time soon it will probably be a Jack Swagger type situation where it starts off relatively interesting but ultimately is pointless. Not to mention that the E can't/won't book Alberto in anything other than World Title feuds for whatever reason.

Del Rio a World champion again? Well, I guess he'll retain it then, since what else can they do with him? Del Rio.. the exact opposite of Jonathan Goldsmith.

WHC cash in should be more likely to happen on Raw or Smackdown to keep the "anytime, anywhere" feel with MitB. That being said, Del Rio steps his game up for ppv matches and a hard fought victory for the limbo stick that is the WHC needs to help stall it from lowering until Sheamus gets back.
But seriously, GET RID OF THE BELT ALL TOGETHER!!!

With RVD in the match, people in the crowd will be(likely) pay attention to a Del Rio match.
