If Miz is still getting lukewarm to bad reactions a month from now, turn him heel.
I just want to see the angle as it's intended to, presuming the heel turn wasn't planned all along. The guy has spent about a year, again, as a glorified version of Matt Striker - an asshole, seemingly indifferent to any in-ring aspirations he might have had. Of course, he's not going to be loved initially. WWE has to wait it out a bit more.

^I wouldn't say Miz was "indifferent". The only time that the Intercontinental Championship seemed anything close to relevant was when Miz was holding it or chasing it. He acted like he wanted it, not like it was just some consolation prize to keep him busy.

The feuds never had any mic-time and there was something off about a former WWE champion just happy to be losing matches and fueling others. I couldn't definitively tell you why crowds hate him now when he was over at first but that kind of booking probably didn't help.

Turn him heel, but keep him away from the Corporation. Build him back up with a few wins over some midcarders, put him in contention for the WHC, and gradually let him go back to his old fratboy douche persona.

If we were talking back when The Hunner Administration first started, I'd agree with the Corporate Miz heel turn. Now, I actually don't want to see a Corporate Miz heel turn.
And not for the reasons already said. Like sure, he should be pissed that Orton beat him so badly and for so long he had to take a 15-minute break, a part of me wishes he'd cut a promo where he slaps the piss out of his dad who couldn't even bother to pretend to care. Anyway, if you consider that stuff Stephanie was telling him? No way Miz aligns with them willingly.
If they talked about how much potential they still see in Miz or how he should prove himself to get back into their good graces? Sure. Problem is, Hunner and Stephanie cut the legs off their faces with their barely-kayfabe comments to the point where any of these guys aligning with them makes the guys themselves look worse. All Stephanie said he was good for was to be their media robot. Him aligning with them regardless of his reasons, castrates him even further.
I think he'd be much better served trying to talk Big Show away from Stephanie, because as many people don't like Miz, I don't think anyone would seriously cheer Stephanie over Miz.

He has to turn pro-Corporate heel, because he isn't sympathetic enough
I don't care if he's being beaten to death even in front of his mother
He's still a douche.

If he's the one that ends up convincing Big Show to stop being Steph and Hunter's personal slave and to finally take a stand against them, that would work.

Apart from facing Booker, the only thing that came out of Cody's run was changing the belt with no build-up and making fun of Big Show. His feud with Orton didn't even involve the belt so it's much like Curtis Axel's reign where it was just a prop that could have been used in title matches instead. Miz had a pretty decent run of matches with the belt against Christian, Kofi, and Rey.

badass rebel Miz has zero credibility. Corporate smiling suck up Miz would be a lot better. And as he's already hated as a face, can you imagine the heat with him being handled the title?

No.
Only reason why I say this is because I think WWE has too many heels as is. They need babyfaces in the worst way. That and I think the majority of WWE heels in general are stupid and just not interesting or entertaining at all. Miz as a heel was even more generic than some say he is as a babyface.
He did the same old crap each week. Came out and spewed cringe inducing insults at the crowd and had mediocre matches. Just leave him where he is. He isn't as bad doing whatever he's doing than he was at being a heel.
