My favorite thing about the Ta-Gar video is that it looks straight out of 1982. Except...this was in the 90's.

Did this guy have a flamethrower type thing as he came to the ring? I seem to remember seeing that in PWI or something back in the day.
As for this dude, he looks like some chump that Skeletor sent to Memphis to try to take out the King.

I remember receiving a copy of The Wrestler in late winter/early spring of 1992 as a gift (no special occasion, in that reguard copies of The Wrestler are a lot like flowers. Sometimes you don't need an occasion to give them to someone) which had an article on a whole slew of weird USWA gimmicks including Ta-Gar. The picture of him was bad ass with him holding up his gloved hand as it either shot up fire or was set ablaze. It scared the crap out of me and was immediately concerned for the safety of anyone who had to wrestle this individual (keep in my mind, I was 8 when I read this magazine). But watching the actual video of Ta-Gar in action totally destroys any mystique the character had by just looking at that one black and white still image from '92.

This came about 6 months AFTER the Black Scorpion in WCW. The production quality for Memphis wrestling was never great. and somehow it got worse as time went on. |

I have a soft spot for the insane Memphis gimmicks. I get the feeling they were intentionally over the top, while the black scorpion you were supposed to take seriously.
