It's something i've kinda always disagreed with...Everyone seems to bring up Dustys failure in the WWE during 90/91 but I always saw him as a solid upper midcard act. He feuded with the Million Dollar Man, Macho king Randy savage & was incredibly over.
He wore polka dots yes but it just seemed like another silly outfit form that era of WWE...I cant say I even noticed. It's not like he was jobbing left & right.
Anyone else not have a problem with Dustys WWE run at that time?

No problem at all. As you said, he was insanely over. The pop he and Sapphire got when they won at WM6 was huge. Other than Hogan and Warrior, only Jake, Piper and possibly Beefcake were over as singles faces on a level with Dusty. Admittedly, after WM6 he didn't do much except job but he was still over with the fans.

None whatsoever. He was the same Dusty he just wore polka dots, danced and wasn't at the absolute top of the card. It's not like it's a Red Rooster situation or anything.

The way I see it in that era it would be very hard to come from another company as a top star and make it..especially for faces. I mean sure Ric Flair came in as a main eventer but at that time they were always looking for heels to feud with Hogan/Warrior. Another main event face just didn't fit in those days. Dusty was just another guy from that era who falls in the same category as Mr.Perfect & Rick Rude. They were potential main eventers who were just a little lost in the shuffle.

I liked him a helluva lot better then than his mid-late 80s Crockett run.

Jimmy Hart made a groovy theme for him. Dusty had such great charisma and personality and mic skills. Maybe the vignettes, like the one where he fixes a toilet were meant to embarrass him to a degree. Maybe even the polka dots were meant that way too, but really they weren't that bad. Dusty made it all work.

If Dusty's idea to be accompanied to the ring by a jive-talking hooker had been allowed, it would be remembered as the greatest gimmick of all time.

I've never had a problem with it because I'm a product of the Northeast, & the polka dots were how I was exposed to him.

No problem at all.
He was over. The current storyline which tries to convince the audience that he was being intentionally humiliated is nonsensical
Whatever the intent was, the gimmick worked perfectly for him.

Considering he was only around for about 18 months, I'd say his overall run was pretty darn decent at the very least. He showed up and had a feud with Bossman before getting involved with Savage. From there, he began feuding with Dibiase.
The only thing I didn't like was that all of those feuds kinda fizzled out without having a blowoff. I can't remember what happened with Bossman, and his feud with Savage wrapped up with a brief match at Summerslam that was overshadowed by Sapphire selling out and the Dibiase feud beginning. And that final feud in turn was overshadowed by Virgil's face turn at the Royal Rumble.

I had a problem with his fat a jiggling when he got his groove on. I had a problem with Sapphire being his dime piece/mascot. I had no problem with Dusty's WWF run.

Blame it on the merch that they continued to sell after he was gone.

it was his own idea so it's not really something to complain about. and as far as ridiculous ring gear goes, it's not even on the radar.

I started watching wrestling in 1990, so polka dot Dusty is my Dusty.
