it looks ordinary, like it's nothing special at all. Really? To me it looks like the definitive championship wrestling belt. If I couldn't read, I would know it's a world title-the globe is right there, and of course the flags. It tells the purpose of the belt, unlike some monstrosities I have seen That's why I loved the 1973-87 NWA World title belt - the Ten Pounds Of Gold, if you weel. Flags make any belt stand out as something different and worth having. The NWA had the US Flag on the front; it is almost as if you could change it into any other country by switching plates. In an era when production values were improving, you also wanted something very colorful. Take advantage of that color capability! I liked the '86 WWF Title. Then again, I also liked the "old" WWF belt Hogan won from the Sheik, it had the names of all the guys who held the title before him on the plates.

I always thought it was funny that they kept selling the '86 WWF Title foam toy belt until like the Attitude Era.
In my first year of wrestling fandom (1993), getting that belt at a house show was just "Huh? This looks nothing like the WWF Title!" The IC and Tag Team belts looked exactly the same but not the "big one". Okay...

It was a very nice look for the Championship. Looked like it would've been great for other Champions to wear.

It's better than the Spinner and the current designs, but that's about it.

Those that don't like this version... Would you prefer the version they made that they said would go to Andre had he won at WrestleMania III? Here's a video with the belt

Always like that one. Better than winged eagle in my eyes. It did bear a striking resemblance to the NWA tag belts. That may be why vince canned it for the distinct winged eagle. To its credit, the winged eagle looked nothing like any other belt in the world

Why the hell does everyone call it the winged eagle?? Eagles have wings. If it were a winged dog, I'd understand the need to specify that dog has wings.
Why winged eagle?

I admit, I am not a fan of it, but I am not a fan of that style of belt in general, the oval kind.

Why did WWF have so many belts made in the 80's anyway? Sheik, Backlund and Hogan held this belt Then Hogan gets a new belt from 86-88, then the Andre belt, then the Eagle belt. Why?

Don't forget this version from 85-86: Anyway, I'll try to justify from a stance of someone that didn't start watching until 1994: "Big Green", as I describe the Backlund/Sheik/Hogan belt...it was somewhat of an eyesore, even if it did have the feature I like in having the past champs names on the side plates (which would be tricky to pull off now. So it was changed for the 85 belt. But then someone realized that it didn't make much sense for the top title to be silver and not gold, so they changed it for the 86-88 belt. The Andre belt was just made for story purposes, to make the fans feel that there was no way in hell Andre was losing that match. Then the Eagle was introduced because it was newer and distinct.

- The Big Green Belt - Hogan 84 - Hogan 85 - Hogan 86 - Mystery Hogan 87? - Andre Belt - Winged Eagle

Do those titles have over 40 different people that have held them though like the WWE Championship has?

I love the idea of going with the names on the side like the Big Green and IWGP belts but with how they change titles in WWE it'd probably fill up fast. They could always go the Stanley Cup route and remove the older plates as needed but it'd be weird to have the names of past champs and not have Hogan or Austin on there.
