Something that just occurred to me out of the blue.
Shawn Michaels - Marty Janetty cowardly ran away from him in December 1991, he won the Rumble in January 1995.
Steve Austin - debuted in 1995, won the title in 1998.
The Rock - debuted in 1996, became the top face in Austin's absence in 1999.
John Cena - debuted in 2002, won the title in 2005.
(Possibly) Daniel Bryan - debuted in 2010, won the title in 2013.
I'll readily grant Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart are exceptions to this, I just thought it was a weird little thing. Maybe three years is, for the most part, sort of the upper limit on how long someone can float around before it gets weird and out of place to push them as a huge deal or something.

Edge debut 1998, first World title in 2006. Huh. I wouldn't say at any time that Edge was the face of the company. You could argue he was on Smackdown, but he headlined Smackdown a good portion of the time when it totally sucked ass. |

Thank you, I debated making that post and felt like it would've fallen on deaf ears. There's a wide gulf between Daniel Bryan in Oct. 2013/Shawn in Jan. 1995 and Austin in 1998 and The Rock in 1999. |
