It's crazy to think that the first Wrestlemania was main evented by a tag match. That'll never happen again.
The last time a PPV was main evented by a tag match (I think) was Rock/Cena vs Miz/Truth, but obviously that was a one time thing. Also, how weird is it that Miz/Truth main evented a ppv?
Anyway, what do you guys think?

I hope so. I love well built, big time tag matches.
If Punk ever gets involved in the corporation thing you know what I'd like to see? Triple H/Orton vs Punk/Bryan. I know people might not be thrilled about having HHH in a match but it'd be cool. I'd add a stipulation that if Punk/Bryan wins the guy who gets the pin gets a title shot. They've got prior history, and it's not very good. Will one of them betray the other for a shot? Can Punk be trusted? "I don't wear a white hat..."

Also, how weird is it that Miz/Truth main evented a ppv? They barely main evented a ppv. They did very little in the build up and all the promotion and the focus was on The Rock and Cena, Awesome Truth were an afterthought

The had a perfect chance with Battleground, but they needed something different to lengthen out both Bryan/Orton and Heyman/Punk storylines without having another scewy finish. People would of still paid the same amount to see Bryan and Punk team up than they would see Orton and Bryan face in a match without a gimmick.
They should of pulled the trigger on wargames, they could of still acted like it was a new wwe invention, they do it with everything, called it battlegrounds. They had it handed to them too, with the Rhodes legacy facing The Shield, That's an easy 5 on 5 match already booked.
The fact that they won't book it because it's a Dusty invention is ridiculous since they don't even have to mention on air it is, so really It's just Vince being an asshole about something that there targeted audience won't even be clued in on. We can have Michael Cole and Lawler act like they have never heard of a match where the ring is surrounded by fire, but we can't have a wargames style match because of some sort of silent nod being given to Dusty.
My only hope is they do it at Hell In A Cell, since the Rhodes program is still going. But imagine the PPV buys Battleground would of got just by simply having a "new" match for today's audience. I know it's close to HIAC, but it would of still made everyone more happy, than having Big Show come to the ring and piss on people's 44.95.

If God couldn't main event in a tag match, then almost no one can.

The Shield could've main evented a few times.
This is the same as asking 'Could Zack Ryder main event a PPV?' Sure, if he got over enough and the right push.

I want to say besides Awesome Truth vs. Cena-Rock, I think the last time we had a tag team main event was TLC 2009 between DX and Jerishow. Last traditional tag was No Way Out 2007 between HBK-Cena and Batista-Taker.

I always felt that they should build the TLC PPV around the tag division.

If they cut out one of the world titles and build up the IC and Tag again, I'd love see another tag match like the third In Your House and Backlash 2001 for the WWE Championship, Intercontinental Championship and Tag Team Championship.

I'd love to see it happen at Survivor Series.
Bryan/Dolph/Kofi/Show/HBK vs. Orton/Reigns/Rollins/Ambrose/HHH

I thought they missed a trick at Elimination Chamber this year. I'm not sure it would've main evented over Punk/Rock II (I would've had it do so because it would have been a match in a style we've never seen before, hence it being more important than one of the most predictable title matches in WWE history) but they really should've gone with the 6-Man Tag Elimination Chamber like you can on the WWE games. The Shield vs. Cena/Ryback/Sheamus inside Elimination Chamber would've surely boosted an already impressive buyrate even more. We've never seen an Elimination Chamber tag match before so it would've been completely unique and still fit with the storyline and it could well have main evented.
So yeah all that waffle means I think there will be a Tag match main eventing a PPV at some point in the future. I doubt it'll ever become a regular thing, at most it's something that will happen every couple of years (which would mean we're due one relatively soon) but it will probably happen at some point.

I paid for Battleground (and am not upset about what I got for my money) but I wouldn't have paid for a thrown-together tag team match in the main event -- nor would I ever pay to do so. Those are for Raw main events, not PPVs. Punk and Bryan aren't a tag team. To put them together against Orton and Ryback would have done nothing for me. I would have skipped it. If they had made Rhodes-Shield the main event, then I would have bought it because that was the main attraction for me anyway -- but I would have been less interested if the Punk and Bryan matches weren't separate. Both advanced the storylines as far as I am concerned. And wasn't there a PPV where the Shield as a threesome main evented? Or am I misremembering?
