Even if they wrote the absolute greatest promo for him, he'd find a way to make it terrible.

I legitimately loved that song and stable, and it's also vintage late-era WCW that they tried to push country singing rednecks in a southern territory as being heels.

I was actually at the Nitro in Atlanta where the West Texas Rednecks performed their song. I can tell you why I cheered. It wasn't because I sided with the rednecks over the urban rappers. I cheered Hennig and the boys simply because I found them to be very entertaining. I think it was probably the happiest Curt Hennig ever was in WCW. He actually got to do something fun instead of being NWO Member Number 7 or Wolf Pack Member Number 5. They came up with something for him to do!
They let him go film a music video and Jimmy Hart wrote a song for him. Plus, Curt was a Minnesota redneck who loved to hunt and fish and sing karaoke, so he could get into this character. As a viewer, I could pick up on the Curt's enthusiasm and fed off the fun he was having playing the character. If you were watching at the time, it was easy to get behind the West Texas Rednecks. It was not really easy to get behind the No Limit Soldiers with Swoll and 4x4 or whoever, who weren't nearly as entertaining.
I know the popular conventional wisdom is that the Southern rednecks cheered the heels because they identified with them instead of the rappers. I'm sure there is some truth to that. But as a fan in attendance, I think many of the cheers came from people who simply enjoyed the work of Curt Hennig and the Rednecks.

I think a lot of it was also that the No Limit Soldiers wore out their welcome in like 4 minutes.

I mean I was an 8 year old little black kid and I loved the WT Rednecks and couldn't stand Master P's dumb wrestling group. One was entertaining, the other was some dumb crossover.

Rap is Crap is a helluva earworm. I had a dream about it a few months ago after re-discovering this video. Sung it for a few days following. I hope it doesnt invade again. I normally hate country music.

Curtis Axel should bring back Oscar from Men on a Mission to "shoot" on R-Truth about how much he sucks as a rapper.
