I'm not a fan of long beginning of the show promos or of any of the interview shows from Piper's Pit to Miz TV. Basically a Mean Gene type interview is the most that works for me. Come out, talk about your problem, maybe say a catch phrase or two. Maybe crack a joke

The "open a show with a promo" is nothing but a leftover of the Monday Night Wars really needs to go away.
But I do like the talk show segments, well not when the host is a dick and supposed to be a face (Miz). It gives guys a chance to really show off their personality to the crowd and get them on their side.

I've never liked talk show segments, I don't mind a show-opening promo as long as it isn't the same every week. At the same time I think if we started putting midcarders in the opening matches it'd tank that night's ratings. Maybe start having main event talent start off the show by wrestling?

I'm not a fan of wrestling, I prefer talking in any form.

I agree I think promos drag on way too long these days. Most of the time if they don't grab me from the start I fast forward them. Even guys like Paul Heyman who most people seem to love hearing talk is so boring to me. I guess he's trying to be annoying on purpose by using unnecessary words to drag it out but I fast forward through him to avoid getting annoyed! "My former client........C........M .... Punk and I..*pause for boos*.......we were the best......in the world...*boooooooo*..C.....M.....Punk........was the Double U......Double U.....E.......Champion... for four hundre...." GET TO THE POINT DAMMIT!

GET TO THE POINT DAMMIT! My god THIS! Two of the all time great talkers in Punk and Heyman and WWE have made me f***ing sick of them droning on and on. It's not even just a heel thing as Punk still rambles as a face. I'd love to see a stat about how much mic time these guys have had this year. They're not the only people guilty of this but there's way too many twenty minute promos that have about five minutes worth of content, maybe it's just a consequence of three hour Raws. Hell you can usually fast-forward the 20 minute opening promo and just watch the 30 second recap that immediately follows it without missing anything. There's nothing inherently wrong with promos or talk shows as they've given us some of the all-time great moments but when it's the same thing every week they lose all meaning, as with many things in wrestling less is more.

I only like hearing interviews when it's someone that doesn't get a chance to talk much.

As was mentioned, the major problem is from the Attitude Era on you have guys doing talk segments every week about a feud, but virtually never saying anything new in each promo. If there's legitimate development, that's one thing, but generally they restate and restate every point each and every week that you've heard all the have to say.
Between that and the recaps, it just gets beyond tedious; especially when it's a paint by numbers segment where you're waiting for the other guy's music to hit and HIM to restate his POV again this week.

I like shorter talking segments also.
I actually liked older WCWs style where ALOT would happen in one episode since each segment was generally shorter. It wasn't that any one thing was better than what we get now, just you had a lot going on so you didn't really get bored. Even a generally crappy episode could hold my interest, because something else was coming up in 5 minutes if even.

I've never liked the talk show segments, as they are all cut-and-paste with whichever talent they decide gets a talk show for that time being, and they all start and end the same.
And starting the show with a promo is such a tired archaic trope. How WWE hasn't figured out what to do with their segments beyond "the formula" is beyond me.

Promos between two feuding wrestlers are fine. Never liked talk shows, though. They're always dumb and have no point.

Many of you have taken the word out of my mouth about promo burn out. What really gets to me is when they hype the crap out of an interview like it's a PPV main event. That stuff reminds me of the end of Elvira's movie.

It might not be so bad if it wasn't the exact same people doing it each and every week.

I know you're a big anime fan, learned that much from our podcast days but wrestling wise what DO you like? I don't think I've seen a positive post from you in a wrestling thread ever. Like this isn't even a dig at you, I'm curious.
