I don't care that it was a full Nelson, and that's pretty much it; I dug ol' Chris Masters in pretty much all his forms- from jacked up greenhorn that obliterated Stevie Richards face, to later years where he slimmed down and could wrestle quite a bit better.
Chris Masters was a cool cat. He wasn't great at anything, but I dug his work/presence.

*Someone was gonna mention that, might as well start it off, as I'm one of the originators of that tired ol' chestnut from back when.

I used to love these too. I didn't love his matches too much but found it hilarious how Lawler used to go crazy pretending he was in awe of Masters' entrance.

He was alright. Unfortunately when the masterlock challenge thing started to drag, he still wasn't much in the ring yet. Then when he had improved some, he wasn't really being pushed anymore.

Masters was awesome. In the early, over 'roided days I only really enjoyed the Masterlock challenge stuff and never really dug the rest of his ring work however when he came back for his second, deflated run I thought he was absolutely brilliant and continued to be so right up until the moment he left the company.

I remember when he announced it and when he left, would do the money gesture at fans when he was walking down the ramp. It made me laugh and care a little more for this guy.

I say it every time he comes up but Chris Masters would be a world champion if he was with a major company currently. He had my match of the year last year and the guy has got everything in the bank to be a legend.

I didn't like Masters or the Masterlock Challenge at all, but once he came back to WWE as a more complete wrestler, I became a huge fan.

I love little bits of booking like this. An ongoing storyline about one guy that doesn't consist of 'ME WANT TITLE. ME FIGHT FOR TITLE.' He was just a strong dude who people couldn't escape, and so you naturally got him over, and then whoever finally broke it would get over too (oh dear Lashley).
We could do with more stuff like that.

I liked Masters. Particulalry in his early days in which he'd pose in time with his music. The Masterlock challenge was awesome though. My friend and I ran it as a scam in High School for a while, charge £1 entry fee, let it build up over time so more people would try, then kept the money at the end of the year. Ended up with £30 a piece, which was nice. It helped that my friend was one of those kids that got real tall real early on!

Why didn't someone just low blow him? Were there even any rules to it?

I remember a phenomenal match he had with Drew McIntyre last year on Superstars. He really became something in the ring before he left, he reminded me of Lex Luger if Lex actually cared about being good.

Eh, it could have been handled better. Much like the White Boy Challenge, it came to an end with very little buildup, especially to a guy who lasted longer than the person they used to beat it.
The thing with Masters, there were several problems. First, they debuted him right BEFORE Wrestlemania. Big mistake. Secondly, he was green as shit. And third, he obviously was on something. The sad thing is, once he did get better and slimmed down and was enjoyable to watch, they cut him.
He reminded me of a modern day Hercules Hernandez.

I think he had one of the best theme songs in the WWE.

He was so awesome on Superstars before he was released, and was a key guy in making that the best TV wrestling show for a good period of time. Him, McIntyre, Trent, Goldust etc. were having dope matches week in and out for a while.
