The problem with Tensai is that they wanted Giant Bernard, this agile beast of a man that will just relentlessly beat people and is constantly moving to wrestle a slow, methodical style with Great Muta-esque mannerisms. It was never going to work. If he was just able to work as he was accustomed to, he would have been fine. If WWE wanted a Great Muta-esque gimmick, they should have got someone who was smaller that could work more like Keiji Mutoh. If WWE didn't screw the pooch with Low Ki, I think that should have been Low Ki's gimmick, mist and all. Ki (before retirement) worked that slow and calculating but explosive style the way Mutoh has been known for, and had that same snap to his moves and strikes. But would Low Ki have been willing to play such a caricature of a character? Sure the wrestling style works, but would he have put on the silly Shredder garb? Eventually they DID give us Giant Bernard when they had Tensai forsake the "Lord", drop the entrance attire and take Sakamoto off of TV. I just don't know why they didn't do that from the start. All things considered, Low Ki would probably have been completely down for the Muta gimmick. He wouldn't have really had to change much either.

Low Ki as a Great Muta like character instead of Tensai would have been a good idea.

His Japanese matches really weren't that great, and his style wasn't all that different. He was still slow and lumbering. I still have yet to see one of these mythical 30-minute matches where Giant Bernard was flying around the ring at a fast pace. There's a place for a guy like that who has such a great look in the WWE, but it's not at the top of the card.
And the "monster heel" push really doesn't work anymore in modern WWE, at least in the long term. With 12 PPVs a year and 2 TV shows a week filled with star v. star matches, you either have to put a monster heel over your entire roster in a short period of time (which will get boring quickly), or have him show some vulnerability a short time in, at which time the aura is gone. A guy is only really valuable in the WWE if he can be over even if he's not booked at the unstoppable guy that nobody can compete with.

The few matches I've looked it he seemed as slow or slower than in WWE

Obviously he's never "flew around the ring" but the guy is 6'7, 360, and he moves damn quickly for it. He doesn't move around any slower than guys like Randy Orton or Sheamus. I think there is definitely room for a guy like him in the uppercard to put on good power vs. power matches (vs. Sheamus) or big vs. small matches (vs. Daniel Bryan) and put over the top babyfaces, as opposed dancing with Brodus Clay.

Let's look at examples. This is the first Giant Bernard match that comes up on a youtube search, v. Takashi Sugiura. I don't know if this is considered a good example of his Japanese work, but the commenters are gushing over it, but to me he looks as slow and plodding as Tensai, and most of it is one power move, rest for a while, one power move, rest for a while, rest hold. The announcers are definitely more excited, there's more outside the ring stuff, his yelling comes across as louder in an smaller arena, and there's a few unsafe moves involving the ring apron that he wouldn't be able to do in the WWE, but he is not in any way working as fast as Randy Orton or Sheamus here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eopPtQiam6I

I just don't know what people are talking about saying he was quicker.

Tensai ia a big man worker the same as a terry gordy, barbarian, or Haku. Bug guy that smaller guys bounce off of, or bigger guys have power struggles with. I personally have been a fan since his singles feud with Kane.
I don't get what people were looking for. He is a big man who does big man moves like clubberijg forearms, sentons, vader bumps, lariats, and slams.
I would like to see Tons of Funk get serious and demolish people. Just because i like both guys.
They aren't going to be flying around the ring. They are big. They smash people. This is what giants in wrestling do.
Orton and Sheamus are more agile and different types from Tensai.
Orton is leagues above everybody in wwe bar Bryan

The premise to Lord Tensai character was so 1993. Thank Yeezus it flopped. I hear that. I'd love to see Albert/Tensai/Bernard/Whatever be a big man and absolutely wreck people, but the Tensai character wasn't the vehicle to do it in. And this is coming from someone who likes 1993 gimmicks.
