Went to the Border City Wrestling 20th Anniversary event in Windsor tonight and was disappointed for the most part.
We were let in a couple minutes past the advertised time which was actually pretty awesome - I always encounter long waiting times for things like that. We got there thirty minutes early and was about twenty people back.
We were told as we were going in that we were able to get two things signed per person.
We were let in and I went too the first recognizable star, Rhyno. He seemed to have just walked into the area and obliged to signing but was asking around if he could sell his own stuff.
While waiting for Rhyno, I also jumped in to a lonely Johnny Parisi and got his auto in the Encyclopedia. He signed it and made sure to tell me that he was Johnny Swinger tonight.
I went to Rikishi next and he put his hand up and said that he was charging $10 an autograph and "wasn't a part of that" pointing to everyone else. Shortly after turning us down, he got called into another room to discuss the money situation. He seemed agitated.
I went directly to Jake 'the Snake' Roberts and he signed my items. However, in the middle of signing his name on each item, he was looking over at what was going on with Rikishi and a promoter told him about the two auto policy and said "don't give away your stuff for free though"...he gave a "no sh*t" look and said "I pretty much am." He didn't acknowledge us once.
I, then, went to Scott Hall. Couldn't have been a nicer human being. Asked how I was doing. Signed my items and thanked me for coming. Very genuine. His son was next to him but I didn't have a picture for him to sign. My girlfriend asked to get a picture, but Scott's handler said "$20" and Scott sat back down after he said that after he was seemingly going to snap a shot with me. Didn't matter though, he still thanked me for coming.
After that, we went and found our seats and got the hell outta the autograph room. Too awkward. Passed on getting anyone else there. Missed out Angelina Love, Petey Williams, and some other notable indy talent.
While sitting, we noticed that Shane Douglas was the color commentator. He was setting up before the show started, so I sent my girlfriend over to get his autograph. He said he wouldn't sign as Dean Douglas because "he promised a kid with cancer that he would have the last ever Dean Douglas signature" and that he turned down a "$1500 request for one" because of that.
Left at intermission. Glad to get some autos in my Encyclopedia, but the experience was very awkward and off putting.
