From Ric Flair, Sting, Ricky Steamboat, The Great Muta, Harley Race, Kerry von Erich and all the great ones.....to Rob f***ing Conway. Wow. To be fair Rob Conway would have been a big deal in the NWA of the 70's, 80's and early 90's, maybe not a world champion but a credible US Champ level guy for sure. He's good in the ring, decent on the mic and has a good look, but like guys like Charlie Haas, he was just utterly undermined by WWE management for whatever reason. No crowd will ever pop for a wrestler that comes out to a song that sounds like a slowed down version of the theme to it's Garry Shandling's show.

Arizona's never really been much of a hotbed for wrestling. We didn't really have a big territory like World Class or JCP, and we don't really have a really well-known Indy like PWG or CHIKARA. So, whenever big wrestling groups like the WWF/E or WCW came in, there was always really big crowds, and hot ones, at that, too. I've been to several events and I know John Cena is usually more cheered, Kofi Kingston gets big pops, Zack Ryder in the WWECW days got boos, the works. So, it was a RAW around 2205 or 2006, and as usual, big pops for everybody, crowd ua ecstatic. Then, one segment, Rob Conway comes in. Total. Absolute. Silence. The second he walked down, everyone just like turned a switch off. It was uncanny how much of a anti-response he got. So, yes Rob Conway isn't a bad wrestler, per se, but he has anti-charisma.

Is this league really a competitor w/ the NWA? From my standpoint, it's already better off than the NWA. well, it doesn't have Adam Pearce, so that's already a huge plus

Was that before or after they gave him a theme song that could suck the life from any crowd, dressed him in attire more befitting a poledancer and had him wrestle and narrowly beat a bunch of C-list legends like Greg Valentine and Doink the Clown? No worker would have gotten over with that push.

Just take a step back and imagine the spectacle that would be a Rob Conway vs Alberto Del Rio with special guest ref Chavo.

I don't think Conway is a guy you can build a company around long term. He's held the belt for almost a year at this point and he's only the champion because he'll reduce his rate for NWA Promoters.
This is a major problem with the NWA. They either hot shot titles or have people hold them for way too long. There is no healthy in between.

...it wasn't their heel commentator, was it? I've had a bone to pick with that fella since he decided he'd take up a few minutes on air to unprofessionally air his opinion regarding people on the Internet. Not sure but he took great glee in bragging when they had that stupid angle where some internet reporter got beat up by Saxon i think. So it may be him. And that internet reporter is a well known MS indy wrestler.
