... instead of making Randy the focal point? Even when Vince Mcmahon was the main heel, he always had a way of getting his own heat, but not overshadowing his hand picked man, even to the point of reflecting his heat on his hand picked challenger. Hell, great managers of the past did the same thing for their clients.
Yet, with this angle and especially last night, I felt that Hunter has made himself more of a focal point than the guy who's wrestling at the ppv for the title. Maybe they're laying the groundwork for a future match between Hunter and Bryan, but I think it's at Randy's expense. I think Hunter doesn't have what it takes to put someone over without feeling the need to overshadow them, like Vince did.

The bride at every wedding, the corpse at every funeral, the baby at every christening. That's Triple H. At least the guy is one of my favorite wrestlers, so I don't really mind, but still.

Yes, but mostly because Orton is so boring, practically anyone could steal his heat.

HHH just plays a far better heel than Orton, it was bound to happen.

HHH just plays a far better heel than Orton, it was bound to happen. This. In this angle I constantly want to see HHH (and even Steph to some extent) get embarrassed and humiliated. I want them to get their comeuppance. As for Orton I just want him out of the way because I feel he's just not even necessary to this angle. And that's on Orton not HHH.

I completely agree with the OP, but this is also true. It would have been like if Vince's hand-picked champion to go up against Austin was Shawn Stasiak.

I agree with the OP, but again, it's Orton, so I really don't give a shit. I really wish Cena could have been the hand-picked champion.

IMO Randy was never the focal point. this angle does have some questionable booking though. I mean it's basically Triple H being portrayed as being delusional for thinking Randy Orton should be the face of the company. it's kinda like they're saying "yeah we'd never seriously build our company around this guy, only a crazy person like heel Triple H would think that's a good idea".

They either don't trust Randy to really run with this, or they are just using him as a means of getting HHH over as the top villain again. It hasn't helped that this thing has gotten to Russo levels of overbooked with Big Show, the Rhodes family, the locker room revolt, now Shawn being the special ref, Bryan feuding with the Shield at the same time he's feuding with Randy etc.
HHH has been the only consistent part of this. He's getting heat because he's being a bad guy. Look at his appearance, mannerisms, comments & overall nature compared to when he was feuding with Brock. Orton is the same guy as he was as a babyface. Same promos, same look, got a babyface pop when he turned to the crowd right before the viper thing in the Ziggler match last night.
Get him in a suit, have him start doing douchey photoshoots & fake "appearances" as the face of the WWE. Unless, as I said before they just don't trust him to pull it all off.

Does anyone else think that, despite pushing him again after having him spin his wheels in the upper midcard for so long, they're reluctant to go all the way in on Orton as top heel in case he gets another strike?

If the WWE were so worried about Orton getting another strike, they probably wouldn't have put him in his current situation at all.

It's funny because this storyline only reinforces to me that Orton is actually the B+ player.
Sure, he's been involved in main events. He's a multiple time world champion when the belts were being passed around like roaches at a Kottonmouth Kings concert. However, he's never been the centerpiece for sizable stretches. The WWE has had Bryan main eventing most, if not all, of the Cena-less shows since John's injury.
Orton's a very solid player, but if he was on a NFL roster, he's not getting a franchise tag.

That's one of the biggest problems with this whole "Authority" storyline.
HHH: "I'll be the villain" Logic: "You f***ing moron! The guy challenging for the title should be the villain!" HHH: "Please remember and worship me!!!!!!" ::SPITS WATER::
Early on, when he was holing Orton up as THE wwe superstar, it worked better. Now, Orton is just the guy who tries to rape the Bellas.

Orton never really had heat in this feud, he's always been a proxy for Trips.

I think the problem is the disconnect between the supposed goal of the Authority and Orton's character. It be one thing if he really was the really crazed Orton being barely restrained and being utilized by like of HHH and Stephanie because he was so vicious and brutal that he could squelch anyone they don't approve of. Or if he had completely reverted to the cocky douchebag 2003/2004 character, in in sense selling out and choosing the easy route by aligning with the corporate interest rather than even being a lone wolf heel, being violent but still being a champion on his own terms at least. Right now he's fallen into the genericization that's hit most of the roster, to the point where you don't precisely see why he's feared or particularly hate him.

Yes, but mostly because Orton is so boring, practically anyone could steal his heat. Yeah, I think this is the main problem. It's not so much that Hunter isn't making this all about him (because he is), it's that Orton doesn't have the presence to pull the spotlight back onto himself. The Rock didn't come across as more than a faceless corporate flunky because Vince was toning himself down to not overshadow Rock. The Rock looked like a major star because he acted like THE ROCK.
