It's no John Stossel vs. Dr.D.David Schultz.

Very interesting to finally see this footage after hearing about it for so long. I find it bizarre that there was actually a lawsuit over this. Belzer goes limp damn near immediately and returns to consciousness almost as fast as he went out, and Hogan seems to handle him with care. I'm no wrestler, neither amateur nor pro, but could someone get knocked out by a guillotine as fast as he does here? It seems a little suspicious to me.

It ws legit. I think Beltzer as soon as he snapped back to it kinda popped up to make it seem like it was all a gas.

I don't know dude, he almost lifts him off his feet and makes it look easy by folding his head into his chest, then completely lets an unconscious guy completely flop onto the back of his head. The video doesn't really show it because it's low quality but he left a good puddle of blood from his head after the fall as well. I'm not a big proponent of the "sue everyone" mentality but it doesn't really bother me that Belzer sued for this one. Either Hulk was making it hurt to protect the business or he just didn't know his own strength but seeing Richard Belzer hanging limp like that from his neck just looks awful.

Hogan is much bigger and stronger, so it wouldn't take much for him to hurt Beltzer.
First time I have watched it. I though Hogan was sued over this.

It's always painful to watch Belzer hit the floor like that.
I'm in the camp that feels like Hogan just didn't know his own strength here. I get the argument that at that point, you had to "protect the business" and couldn't make it seem fake, but especially a smart businessman like Hogan would know that with a non-wrestler, there was the potential for injury and a lawsuit and that you could easily kayfabe this by saying, "I'll show you how it's done, but I'm not going to really lock it in like I would in the ring."

I thought Belzer was doing it for an opportunity to sue

I think the hold knocked him out but the bump to the head woke him back up again.

Pretty careless of Hogan just to let him drop like that.

With 29 years of hindsight this is obviously a lot easier than it was for Hogan if he actually had to decide what to do on the fly, which seems to be what most observers think is the case.
I see the footage and think that Hogan would have made a great figure if he had scooped Belzer up for a bodyslam, started the slam motion, but of course held on, just to get Belzer scared. This would look good, it would be easy and safe for a 320 lbs jacked Hogan, and with a bit of luck you'd get a petrified squeal out of Belzer that would make for a good "go-to" clip on his show, which would be a nice win/win for the parties.
I guess it worked out ok anyway, with Belzer getting a check, and Hogan and WrestleMania getting the news coverage. One thing I'd still like to remove from all of this is the awkwardness of Mr.T's promo in the end.

It seemed like an accident on Hogan's part. There are other holds he could've used if he wanted to shoot.

Hogan's technique on it is actually pretty good. He resists the urge to pull the way a lot of people do, instead he flexes and puffs his chest out. The "captain america pose" we used to call it to help us remember how to do it right. With decent technique, huge arms and a gigantic chest Beltzer could be sleeping in seconds.

It's kinda messed up that Belzer was able to get a fat settlement. He asked Hogan to put him in a hold & Hulkster complied. Hogan seemed sincerely sorry for putting him out. At most, WWF/Hogan should have covered his medical expenses.

Wasn't Hogan trained by some strong style legend because if he was i highly doubt he would have a problem choking out the skinny guy from law and order
