I blame Herb Dean. He should have dove in there to stop it...

Wasn't Hogan trained by some strong style legend because if he was i highly doubt he would have a problem choking out the skinny guy from law and order Yes, I forget his name though. Broke Hogan's leg first thing as part of his training. Or so Hogan says, I believe the story has been confirmed though.

Saw this back in the day, and no matter the circumstances of Belzer's head...the fact of the matter is, he goaded Hogan into doing this, after basically mocking wrestling.
It was a simple accident in my eyes. But Belzer's very fragile ego was damaged, and he had to get the last laugh. He needed millions of dollars to compensate such devastation, although Belzer claims he got only 400 grand.

Lance Storm is quoted as saying he'd let the Hulkster punch his kids. Not that I'm saying he couldn't easily choke out this stick insect, but I suspect Hogan didn't realise just how light you have to be with a civilian.

In his first book, Hogan more or less says that Belzer's goading got to him and he knew what he was doing.

Hogan may have been really soft here in the u.s. but if you watch some of his puro matches he could be really stiff not to say he was great in the ring or anything but allot stiffer and this was only a couple years after his stint in NJPW if i'm not mistaken

I heard this was done on purpose because the host mocked wrestling or something (in the past)
Hogan doesn't seem that worried about him

Hogan didn't have a ton of technical know-off but he did pick up a modicum of shoot holds for bad situations. When he was progressing in his career things were on the cusp of changing but it was still at the tail-end where you needed to be able to shut someone down if necessary if things were going wrong. Plus the fact Hogan was a really big strong guy helps too, those huge arms wrapped around a neck isn't good. Belzer had been winding him and pro wrestling up something fierce, so when Hogan had that opportunity he went for it a little stronger that perhaps was wise. He knew what he was doing, though, and pressure on the...carotid artery, is it...to cut off the blood supply can indeed have such a quick and dramatic effect. Letting Belzer drop like a sack and smack his head on the floor did more damage than the hold itself. Yeah, but he was notoriously light in the ring when working in the US. Lance Storm is quoted as saying he'd let the Hulkster punch his kids. Maybe Lance just doesn't like his kids
