what was the name of that guy and his wrestling promotion where he "claimed" he had a deal to air on ESPN, yet ESPN said they never heard of him? also didnt he claim he was gonna give his workers health insurance or something like that and the whole internet blew up claiming that if this happened it would effect all wrestling (mainly WWE) at the time?

Wasn't there a guy named Shaun Davis who was supposed to be setting up something major in 2011?

Remember the guy in Florida who had financial supporters and was supposed to be signing all these free agents to big contracts?

What was the one that supposedly had a financial backer from the NY Mets ownership or something? That one was the one that supposedly had signed all these big names and then they pushed back the start of the promotion and it never happened(not that it was ever going to happen anyways)

The guy's name is John Collins and the promotion was called Main Event Championship Wrestling. I'm trying to remember all of the details of that fiasco. I recall them only managing to do one or two shows before things imploded, everybody's checks bouncing, the promotion "invading" an even smaller indy fed (they rented out limos and everything to "invade" a show that had about 100 in the audience) and Collins claiming to have had a heart attack at the same time everyone was screaming for their money. This was, what, 2002? Somewhere in there.

I remember the 2011 one. They claimed they signed like Vader, Booker T, Sabu, Too Cold Scorpio to name a few. It got pushed back and next thing you know Booker T is in the rumble that year.

Found this report from 2001 about an MECW Show. Not a bad roster if you read the report. {Spoiler}Spoiler MAYHEM reader Kenneth Baxter sent this in:
Hi, I thought I would tell you about the show in Evansville from this past Wednesday. First, I want to say that I think John Collins is AWESOME! I talked to him after the show and the guy is very down to Earth and his head isn't inflated. He was very nice and even let me meet Buff cause my brother is becoming good friends with John. Anyway on to the show....
The show started off with the local promotion CCW announcer in the ring talking about CCW going to beat MECW and then Dave Penzer came walking in. Penzer said that CCW was low class and MECW was gonna take over. Next, John Collins comes out with a beer followed by all the MECW guys( all with beers in hand) and some of the names were interesting... a lot of Indy guys but Johnny the Bull, New Jack, Barry Windham, Public Enemy, and Buff came out. I was kind of depressed because I was thinking Scott Hall and Sabu where gonna be there. The they introduce Sandman who came out with the "CCW Commish" who was Eric Ackers (promoter of MECW--very cool guy) and they had him say tht this was MECW's show. Buff started talking and New Jack went out to the crowd and started flippin people off. Anyway, this was being taped and John took advantage of the situation and came over to us (my brother, friend, and I) and smacked my brother (he later told my brother to play along , cause he was on tv). Ok onto the highlights:
* Ok 30 minute late start -- but then in a match, this big guy from CCW named Manslaughter was thrown off the top and broke the middle of the ring. The delay lasted another 30 minutes , but John grabbed my brother and went outside to talk to him. In the meanwhile, my friend and I went over to the merchandise booth (MECW has 3 shirts), BUT what was weird was that they were selling 3 WWF shirts (Angle, Austin, Rock) ! Also during this time Sandman got on the microphone and said that this was CCW's ring and it represented them. Buff came out and signed autographs for just about everyone there, very cool I thought.
* Public Enemy fought 2 local guys for the rights to the name Grunge – Rocco does a flip over the top rope and puts his opponent thru the table. Rocco then broke the table into small pieces and handed them out to the crowd.
* New Jack came out and practically killed this local kid. **** New Jack was supposed to face this bigger looking guy, but when the guy found out who he was fighting and what was going to happen...he didn't stick around. He won't be in MECW anymore, it isn't good to cuss the crowd out when the show isn't even going on !!! Anyway, New Jack used a cookie sheet, fork , stapled the kid in the face ( talked to the kid later and he said he did get stapled but pulled it out right after!!!) , a fluorescent light tube ( went everywhere, the kid looked dead by this time, very unnerving) , a barbwire 2x4, trash can once (one of those big ass heavy duty metal ones!), and then again with it off of the top. New Jack wins. He says that if you came here to see holds, wrong place. Here for something else i forget. BUT if you came here to see him gut that kid like a fish, then you got here right on time. Medics came out to help the kid to the back.
* Now there were a lot of other good matches besides those two before the main event but not worth writing out. Huge fireball was shot at one guy (talked to him later and he was good, very surprising because it was huge and real close). The Manslaughter guy also got in a legitimate fight with a 13-15 year old who was making fun of him for breaking the ring. Kind of weird because talking to Manslaughter later, and he seemed very nice.
* Enter Sandman hits and Sandman walks thru the whole crowd...final total: 3 beers, 1 busted up forehead (his own, can smashing), and one fan with a Sandman shirt got to get a full beer from sandman. The match starts and John comes out and says that this match is for the MECW hardcore title. Sandman hits the local guy with a ladder a few times, gets himself thrown into it once, but eventually puts the guy thru the table with a flip over the top of the ladder. SANDMAN IS THE NEW MECW HARDCORE CHAMP. the guy he fought left really quickly because he accidentally got split open above his eye from a table piece.
*****NEXT WEEK'S SHOW***** All of the guys already there except maybe no Windham. Scott Hall is most likely to be there, as is Sabu. But some big news is that KEN SHAMROCK is almost locked and Henning will be back (was actually defending belt in Kansas City).
*****MEETING THE STARS***** The show got over very late and I had to get up for a 4 hour drive home the next day so I couldn't stay too long. Windham came in and was very nice and said hi before going into the bar (the only place the guys could eat, because of how late). Anyway, New Jack was the 1st in, this guy didn't seem happy since he arrived at the building (funny though cause he went and played a MR. Pacman arcade game while we were there.)
*Dave Penzer came over and had a talk with us-- very nice guy.
*Just John (kid that fought New Jack) came over and talked a little while. He said he got to be the show tonight, he also said what he blood he lost he would gain back in the bar. Very cool guy.
*I want to say that Rocco Rock should definitely wear something new to the ring because this guy is buff, not like Johnny the Bull or anything but very surprising.
*My brother commended Sandman on his match, and Sandman shook his hand.
*Buff comes strolling in and walks right into the kitchen (I think to say hi as well as a try to cook his own food) . Anyway, Buff is a very nice guy, he and John Collins talked to my brother the week before for around an hour or two just because they wanted to.
* John came over and he looked beat. He said he is working 20 hour days now and had 13 interviews today alone reaching from Rolling Stone to a newspaper in Ireland! John went on and asked about the show, he was very cool about it. He said that they signed deals with DirecTV for PPVs and with UPN for a timeslot to go against Raw----very awesome. I asked him about Hall and he said that he was in New Mexico, but they were talking. Apparently, he is working on a deal, but I can't say what he said cause he said he shouldn't because of it being negotiations. Anyway, I Guarn-DAMN-tee that MECW will make BIG NEWS if these few things (or guys) fall into place. I estimate them to actually start shaping up near September or October.
AWESOME SHOW, AND WWF SHOULD DEFINITELY TAKE M-E-C-W FOR REAL!
Sounds pretty cool to me. I can't wait to go to a MECW show.

I thought the one with the Wilpons was that same Florida guy. It was. Here is an article from PWInsider on it: PWInsiderName was to be WWP, either for Wilpon Wrestling Promotions or Worldwide Wrestling Promotions.
