Over the past few years, WWE has really dropped the ball with this concept. They never build these matches up and usually just put a plethora of mid-carders in them and never follow through with any of it.
Survivor Series 2011 should've been Rock & Cena captaining a Survivor Series team against Awesome Truth's team. Why couldn't Team Punk vs. Team Ryback happen in 2012? Was it because they wanted the title on the line? Why not have the winning team win the title for the captain? Or how about Team Orton vs. Team Big Show for the title this year? Maybe have Orton get eliminated with a roll-up by a younger face or knocked out by Big Show or something, then have Roman Reigns vs. Big Show at the end or something, with Orton coming to and interfering at the end? Or why no Wyatt Family and another partner vs. Team Punk/Bryan? WWE just won't do anything creative with this match concept.
Why is WWE so lazy with this concept? I don't get it! Why not have huge tag matches with big stars like Cena or Punk or something? Why never have build to it? WWE really dropped the ball with this, and I just can't see why. Any ideas? Any ideas for matches? Go for it in the comments.

I think past Survivor Series buyrates have been rather low, and somehow they blame it on the traditional tag match concept just being old and stale. Which is odd because the traditional matches have been greatly outnumbered by regular matches for as far back as I can remember.
......they probably just don't like them and de-emphasize them for that reason, yet keep them around so they have something to shift blame to. Vince and Co. just seem like that kind of sadist.

I never really liked the whole traditional Survivor Series matches anyway, so I'd be perfectly happy if they just scrapped the whole concept.

Typically it's hard to really create a big time rivalry feud that involves 10 guys in it. It's usually just one guy and people of his alignment vs his rival and his team of wrestlers of the same alignment. Not really interesting since the logic in these elimination matches really are lacking (Like how teammates don't break up pin attempts.)
Other than an odd ball one like the team Orton vs team Hunter and team raw vs team smackdown in 2005 one which really felt like an all encompassing feud.

IIRC, Vince actually wanted to change the name of the show because he felt like the concept was no longer a draw but changed it back after fans lost their shit.

There's 13 PPV's a year with many of them having no concept. A certain match type makes ppvs special like Hell in a Cell or Elimination Chamber. They should always do at least two traditional SS matches or just call it something else. I don't understand people that don't like them. It's a match that hardly ever happens. You get to see different interactions and unique match ups.
Open with one, a couple singles matches, a divas one, a couple title matches and a high profile, story progressing one for the main event. What's wrong with that? Personally I'd like it if they were really old school and went with all SS matches.

If they had gone completely old school this year and had all tag matches, I think the spectacle of it would have peaked interest and made them more money. They could have even added a reward to the survivors regarding the Royal Rumble or something.
Next year they can have a tournament. The year after that they could have War Games. There are so many matches that can fall under the Survivor Series banner. This is actually one event where Beat the Clock might actually be relevant.

If you give me a Vince Mcmahon voice over with the still pictures....
Wyatts vs The Best Wyatt family and Curtis axel vs Punk, bryan and prime time players
Show offs vs High society Dolph, Big E, Kofi, and Tyson Kidd vs Real Americans, Del Rio, Fandango
Team Cena vs The Brilliant ones Cena, Goldust, Cody Rhodes, The Usos vs Sandow, The Shield, and Ryback
Orton vs Big Show
I seriously might would pay to watch an old school survivor series like that
