Were ratings really that bad? I need more Austin eliminating rookies who don't know jack about wrestling, but then inexplicably go on to be much more successful than the winner.

USA and WWE put the kibosh on it for not entirely clear reasons. Austin said ratings were huge and everyone wanted to come back for more.
If I had to guess, it had to do with two factors: first, the fan reaction (there was a lot of negative backlash to the inclusion of contestants like Rima Fakih, and a lot of fan outcry at Matt "M-Dogg 20" being eliminated in episode 2 for not impressing Trish, despite being well known in the indies) was all over the place but ultimately a lot of people wrote it off as a scripted competition. Secondly, winner Andy Leavine was wellness'd and ultimately released, while the first eliminated Ariane remains the sole survivor of the series as Funkadactyl Cameron. You could see where the series was a mixed bag.

It introduced the world to Cameron. For that alone, the show deserved a fate far worse than cancellation.

They didn't even release it on DVD, you can barely find episodes on YouTube and unless I'm mistaken, it was the last time Stone Cold Steve Austin was on WWE programming. It's odd that WWE is almost whitewashing it from its history.

If not for this show we wouldn't all know of Cameron's vaginal problems brought about by Vinnie. In 3 hours we get to see what happens next!

Please don't inquire for a follow-up to that post. Let's just say there's gonna be a syphillis scare, then the doctor says she's okay and then she'll say something like the gynecologist's test results were the bomb dot com.

and it still sucks to me that Cameron (the one who seemed least passionate about the company/BUZINESS, and a terrible humanbeing at least she comes across that way on TE and TD) is the only one that is still with the company. Luke and Jeremiah both deserved a chance on the main roster over everyone else from that season, in my opinon.

I'm sure I remember reading WWE didn't even want to do it in the first place.
I don't know why, it was the best WWE show at the time.

I'm gonna assume it's because WWE realizes the idea is flawed. Whoever wins the competition, they can't get any use out of for many many months.
Hell, the only people to come out of TE that were any good were Morrison and Miz. I was a massive mark for Maven when he was around but even I know he was trash.

They had such garbage "rookies", with all different skill levels and completely arbitrary and constantly changing standards. It was a complete mess, regardless of Stone Cold being awesome. If they do it again, they need to do it like season 1.

Apparently the main reason was USA's hands-on control over it. Dunn wasn't allowed to produce it either.

USA got higher ratings in that timeslot with NCIS re-runs. So they decided against another season (then later made RAW 3 hours).

Follow-up question: Why has no other show incorporated five minutes of Stone Cold berating people? I don't even mind if it's over the credits of a sitcom. Just have him calling Jon Cryer completely pathetic after a taping of Two and Half Men, I don't care. I just want Stone Cold yelling at people back on TV!

Dunn wasn't allowed to produce it either. Dunn not producing is a bad thing?
