Bane was a better villian in the Dark Knight saga than The Joker. I enjoyed Heath as much as pretty much everyone else that was spazzing out over his performance at the time, but when you think about it, the guy had a LOT of material to study. Romero, Nicholson, Hamill, hundreds upon hundreds of comic book strips. The formula was already there. Bane is MUCH trickier to handle because, to the mainstream, he was a joke before Rises. Whilst he's had a much better showing in the comics, there was no good live action portrayal of the character and the majority just knew Bane as a big goofy looking henchman. Tom Hardy has made the character the second biggest Batman villian. I also think time is being much kinder to Bane. Obviously TDK has been out longer, but after a few watches I got pretty tired of re-watching Heath. With Bane, I was one of those that couldn't wrap my head around the Bane voice, but it gets more awesome the more I hear it. I think everything about the performance is going to age well, from his look to his motives. Also I love the first Batman/Bane fight a lot more than Batman kicking Joker around and him giggling. There was a genuine sense that Batman wasn't going to win that whole movie, whereas he's always destined to best Joker. So yeah, I guess I'll just add a poll.

Bane was a more effective villain it that he actually accomplished almost everything he set out to do and beating Batman in his own game. Joker was a more compelling character and had a memorable character moments. I think its wash because both were great performances that people still quote and reference for years to come.

I liked Two-Face best. I just wish they didn't kill him off at the end of TDK.

I disagree because in my eyes {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Bane basically just ended up being a flunky and that killed it for me. He was awesome up until that point though.

I go with Joker, but Bane was really good.

I'm still going with Joker. Bane achieved more of his goals initially, and his design was great, but his downfall was entirely his own fault. With Joker, you at least felt like he had a solid plan and was outsmarted, Bane pretty much just invited Batman to beat him.

I agree. Honestly, I feel Ledger's portrayal was a good psychopath, but it wasn't the Joker.

They were both fun and well acted/written baddies, but I prefered TDK as an overall movie, so Joker eeks out the win.

Bane, for the simple reason he always felt like a threat. With Joker, while he was always a thorn in Batman's side, causing chaos, you knew when he caught up with him it was always going to end one way.
Bane on the other hand had Batman's number from the start, was always one step ahead of everybody else, and even when Bruce got his shit together there was always the lingering doubt that it would be enough to stop Bane.

Honestly? I loved Scarecrow. Even though he just became a bit part in the latter two movies, I thought Cillian Murphy nailed Dr. Crane down pat.
Between Bane and Joker though, I have to go with Joker. It was such a memorable take on an immensely iconic character.

Scarecrow was awesome...then he ran into a taser and it all went downhill from there. Though I did love him playing judge in Rises.

Joker was the best Batman villain of the most recent trilogy in my opinion.
But Bane was indeed surprisingly awesome. When I heard Bane was the main villain I was upset because he is always portrayed in such a way that I can never take him seriously as anything other than a lower level guy. But he was written really well and Tom Hardy is just fantastic so everything worked out well.
All the Batman villains were exceptional I thought. From Joker to Bane to Two Face to Scarecrow to Ra's Al Ghul to Talia/Miranda. All of them played their parts very well and added to the series of films that brought me to understand what is so enjoyable about superhero movies.
