Way back when Christian Cage like just about all WWE wrestlers originally started out on the indies. However, I don't think he has wrestled for an indie company (or at least not regularly) since the 1990s when the WWF signed him. So say Christian hypothetically took a break from the WWE or whatever and instead of TNA he returned to the indies at least for a limited time.
I could see Christian getting treated like a God on the indies and making a ton of dough. If we include ROH in the discussion of indies (though they're not really an indie any more) I could see them pushing him, probably as a face champ (though he'd be a better heel). Still, I would hope that instead of just working for ROH he would pop up for a bunch of the bigger indies like CZW, DGUSA, etc.

I could see a big push for him from ROH. They'd have the money to keep him around as a regular player. I wouldn't see any reason somewhere like DGUSA or PWG (thinking a BOLA weekend) wouldn't bring him in for extremely special occasions, but few places could regularly afford what he'd ask.

I thought he worked a couple shows for ROH back in 06? edit: wikipedia isn't the most reliable source but I remember this happening: In May 2006, Reso made two appearances for the Ring of Honor (ROH) promotion as "Christian Cage". His first appearance was on May 12, 2006 at ROH's How We Roll event in a tag match with Colt Cabana against Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels, which Cabana and he won.[116] His second appearance was a loss to Christopher Daniels at ROH's Generation Now event on July 29, 2006

Christian also worked indies semi regularly when he was in TNA. I remember a NWA World Heavyweight Title defense between he and AJ where there was about 300 people in the crowd max for some NWA promotion.
Anyway, I think Christian is a smart dude who saved his money so his indy dates would consist of promoters willing to overpay him massively and conventions. Couldn't see him working regularly in ROH or anything like that.
