I'm playing the Sheamus vs. Kofi match after the Survivor Series and I find the pin system to be infuriating, I found the one on WWE 13 to be MUCH easier and it gives you more of a chance to kick-out.

AGREED.
It's not much better on 2k14.

Everything about WWE '12 is infuriating.

I spent a good five or six hours customising the game to my liking, played one match and lost inside a minute because of the stupid pin system, and sold the game the next day.

as someone who's only played 2k14 explain You have to have a microphone plugged in and sing "Let me kick-ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut!" in perfect rising baritone pitch (soprano or alto for a diva) or else you get pinned. Pretty sure that was WWE '12. Might have been Rock Band. Not sure.

I wish nothing had really changed after '11.

I wish everything in Smackdown vs Raw 2006 was just updated and improved, I miss GM mode.

Along with not including an instruction manual to explain how the entirely new system worked, everything about WWE 12 was a strong argument against buying 13 and 14.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not even considered buying another WWE game since.

Was mashing buttons really too much trouble? Too complicated for people? Too tiring for some?

I didn't hate it as much as I hated the career mode's execution. Oh, you wanted matches? too bad, here's the same backstage brawl handicap match 14 times.

It's to do one certain thing (that, again, there are no instructions to explain) and then lose in a cut scene.

I hate the holding button technique, I'd much prefer if the game decided if I could kick out based on damage.
Like a real match would.

My annoyance was when you have to guess with button to press. I think it was during a royal rumble. IT was so annoying. I would blank out on with button was which.

The fact they want so desperately for this to be an actual gameplay mechanic is effing stupid.
Pins are simple. You apply them when your opposition is dead.
Maybe you add an edge to where you can "catch" them with a schoolboy or something, but ultimately, the pin happens when it should.
To make an early pin fatal or a late one escapable is getting iffy, especially when it's handled via some qte nightmare.
