One of my all-time favorites, Omar Visquel, hired as a first base coach with the Tigers. Saw that people are already doing the "Is he a half of famer" bit and, as biased as I may be, I don't see how the answer isn't "of course he is".
almost 3K hits, 11 straight gold gloves, part of, IMO (with zero disrespect to Whitaker and Trammell), the greatest double play combo I've ever seen with him and Alomar.
I'm a Homer, I admit it, but he's got to be in. Maybe not first ballot (though I'd say it's not shocking to see), but second or third at worst.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports confirms that free agent Tim Hudson has an agreement in place with the Giants.
Sources have informed Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York that free agent second baseman Robinson Cano is still seeking a 10-year contract worth $310 million.

Any catcher in this market that can stand behind home plate, catch more than 100 games and offer any offense is worth 8.67 million. The 3rd year might be a bit much at his age, but this is what you have to pay for a position there aren't many options at.

No way is Vizquel a HOFer. First, his hits were compiled as a result of his longevity (24 years)...and he STILL couldn't get 3,000. Second, he placed in the MVP voting only ONCE (he finished 16th in 1999). If he were great, shouldn't he have placed higher? His 2 teammates that year, Roberto Alomar and Manny Ramirez, finished third and fourth, respectively. So he was, at best, the third-best player on his team the year he placed for an MVP award. If you're a fan of advanced metrics, he has NO black ink and a low amount of gray ink (he has 25, while the average HOFer has 144). To me, he is seen as a modern-day Bobby Wallace/Rabbit Maranville (who also played forever but only registered around 2,500 hits with a low average, and who are HOF mistakes), and a poor man's Luis Aparicio (who probably shouldn't be in the HOF either).

Yankees want to have Raul Ibanez back, which begs the question of why they didn't get him back last season.

They aren't wrong. I realize on base is what most people look at now but when you watch 140 or so of their games per season you get what they're saying. Sometimes they need him to come up and do more than take four pitches. In trying to draw all these walks he passes on way too many good pitches.

He shouldn't swing at bad pitches just because.

There's nothing wrong with his approach.

So they think by him swinging more his numbers will be better? Didn't they fire Dusty Baker? WTF?
It ain't broke. Leave him alone.

Hm, so the Reds want Joey Votto, a legitimate MVP-caliber player year-in and year-out to be more like Jay Bruce?
Makes sense.
The Reds brass needs to look no further than the current World Series Champions to see that having a guy who will take 100+ walks (Oh yeah, and hit .300+) is far more preferred than a 40HR guy with a mediocre OBP / High K rate.
