Worst possible timing- he got injured the same weekend that Undertaker- as WHC- got injured, and they HAD to get the belt off him somehow. The Smackdown World title scene was cursed that year. Undertaker, Edge, and Mr. Kennedy were victims and the resulting chaos was this.... I remember that it was joked that the WHC was cursed. Not even Khali was immune to this: he was diagnosed with high enzyme levels in his liver. Was this before or after he got the belt?

I remember that story coming up around the time of the first Punjabi Prison match.

This is how I remember it too. And Khali as champ is when the big gold belt started to it having the lowered level status

I've never gotten it either. I guess they needed a title feud over on SmackDown and the idea before Taker was injured was probably him against Mark Henry, but I don't really know why they didn't just give the title to Batista (since he and Taker faced each other for it the night Edge cashed in and all) then have a feud between him and Henry.

I would imagine the writers started watching the show.

Didn't Henry only drop the title because he got injured? Was he because he wrestled in the RR and Wrestlemania that year. He had a knee injury which they covered the storyline by having Show do the 'leg crushed in a chair' spot on him. He didn't really wrestle all that much between then and Mania (mainly tags and triple threat matches) before undergoing surgery which kept him out for nine months.

In hindsight it was a good thing he did lose it. Not only did we get Edge going to Smackdown as a result of it, but Kennedy got injured, returned, and within a couple of months he was suspended for substance abuse. I feel that if he became World Champion, he wouldn't be as stupid with that kind of stuff. In general, had Kennedy won the WHC, maybe he would've been more careful and avoided injuries, suspensions, and making trouble with Randy Orton, as if he was more motivated.

He could have been Vince's son too, never has a wrestler got so close to the very top and had it slip away to next to nothing.
*Awaits a big list of people that got it worse*

I don't think there is a guy I have liked less in recent years than Kennedy. I can't stand the Miz, but I at least have an iota of respect for Miz. I never liked Kennedy and always felt he was an arrogant and overrated doucher, and not in the heel sense. I'll never forget him chastising someone for drug using and saying things like he'd never do it, and not a month later he got wellness'd lol.
I also remember posting on here that I hoped he'd get released, and then it happened like 3 days later lol

Because he was terrible and someone realised? I've always preferred to think this was the reason.

It's weird how opinions change. I remember Kennedy being way over on these boards. I think his skills have just diminished so much.

I thought Kennedy was going to be huge when he was beating a ton of former world champions in 2006-2007 and he was also having really good matches against a range of different wrestlers.

Hey, look at it this way: If Kennedy hadn't have gotten injured, we never would have gotten the inspiration for things like this: I rest my case....on your face.

Time tends to change viewpoints. I agree. I think in most cases it's just that they get to the main event scene and kind of flounder

I remember him teasing a Mania cash in, but I don't remember him explicitly saying that he'd actually do it. I don't remember it being the actual plan set in stone. I think he did. I think I remember a promo sayings he's going to be the first to do it. WWE rarely plan things long term anyways except for anything involving The Rock due to his insane schedule. I remember DB said the same thing and how it seemed Mark Henry was going to be WHC till Mania and DB would be the one to finally slay the dragon WWE.com had a Kennedy Countdown Clock for the couple of weeks in which KK held the MitB; definitely a thing at one stage.
