His injury scare said 4-6 months. He still would of made it back in time before the year. Plus if would be unique to have someone cash in the MITB the first night back from injury

In hindsight it was a good thing he did lose it. Not only did we get Edge going to Smackdown as a result of it, but Kennedy got injured, returned, and within a couple of months he was suspended for substance abuse.

Worst possible timing- he got injured the same weekend that Undertaker- as WHC- got injured, and they HAD to get the belt off him somehow.

I think the doctor misdiagnosed him or something like that.

Same as the new WWE champ, because it's good for business, will appear at X number of shows, he can't just disappear for 5 months. So the office (possibly Tunney) decided as Kennedy couldn't fulfil the obligated appearances he'd have to lose the MiTB contract itself [/kayfabe]

In storyline, it really made Kennedy look stupid. Kennedy had interestingly announced a year out that he was cashing-in at next year's WrestleMania. Therefore, why on earth would Kennedy agree to put the contract on the line?
In the end, I'm kind of glad Kennedy never got to cash-in and become champion.

I remember him teasing a Mania cash in, but I don't remember him explicitly saying that he'd actually do it. I don't remember it being the actual plan set in stone.

I think the doctor misdiagnosed him or something like that. this is how i remember it. originally he was supposed to miss mania due to the severity of the injury, but then he only missed like, 6-8 weeks instead of the 6-whatever months that was originally predicted

I like to imagine that Vince had a rare flash of clarity and realized that Kennedy sucked something fierce.

I wonder if WWE just really likes when talent appears to come back from injury early so they exaggerate the recovery time a bit.

I think I remember a promo sayings he's going to be the first to do it. WWE rarely plan things long term anyways except for anything involving The Rock due to his insane schedule. I remember DB said the same thing and how it seemed Mark Henry was going to be WHC till Mania and DB would be the one to finally slay the dragon

Kennedy did say he was saving it until WrestleMania, and since 3 people said so, it has to be true.

That was WWE's own fault for drafting everyone worth a damn other than Taker and Batista to Raw a month or two before. "But we got Torrie Wilson!" And yeah, Kennedy announced he was cashing in at Mania and WWE.com even had a countdown on the site.

Honestly, Khali as champ was when I liked him best. And funny thing was that when Khali was the World Champion, it was the only time that I didn't think he was being pushed to the detriment of anyone else. Never once did I think that "X should be World Champ instead of Khali". But now that he's a comedy lowcarder, I just wish that someone like Ryder, Gabriel, Yoshi or Riley were featured and booked as strongly as he is.

It was sad really. He wasn't the type of guy you would normally have sympathy for but damn Edge raped him. He really could of held onto the briefcase for awhile as it suited his gimmick alot more than the future MITB holders.
