Yeah this one's looking a write-off now. Batting needs to be worked on intensely ahead of the second test. I wouldnt say that just yet. England can bat and might be able to force a draw......it might rain. Well even if they go down here, if the mistakes are learnt from the series could be alive.

Crazy day in Brisbane today. Wickets, rain, hail, a bit of niggle between the team's but on balance Australia deserved to win. We dominated from the point of the game when Johnson joined Haddin in the first innings. Questions will be asked of the English batting against the short ball. Adelaide will be a different wicket but Perth will be similar to Brisbane but probably even more bounce.

At least there's a bit of time to work on what went wrong before the second test in Adelaide. I expect England to come back to prove a point. If we can't, the series may well be over before we even get to Melbourne.

Let's just hope that's the worse England get in this test series. The only way is up.

Sometime should tell England that the Ashes have begun

Trott's gone home due to stress related issues, not connected to the series, although Warner's comments haven't helped. I can see England being determined to fire back following this, we could have a very ugly series on our hands.

Less than 24 hours out from the start of the second test. The pitch in Adelaide will suit England more however I'm tipping a draw.

Australia wins the toss and elects to bat. England have brought in Panesar as a 2nd spinner and given Ben Stokes his test debut. Australia unchanged from the team that spanked England in Brisbane.
Unseasonably cold and rainy conditions to start the first test at the renovated Adelaide Oval.

England collapsing after lunch on day two. Johnson 3 wickets in an over. They are 7 down & still need 160 to avoid the follow on. Loving the way Australia are mentally dominating the game. Just had to look at what Broad did when he came to the crease to see that they are rattled by the attack dog mentality of the Aussies.

England are really in trouble! Did I call Jonathan Trott being under pressure or what!?
Joe Root has been very quiet and maybe a big innings is on the cards. Australia better keep their mind on the job though, player for player, England is still the better team and if they get going, they still might retain the ashes.

Another good day for Australia. England were on the back foot from the start. Petersen and Root gave them a little bit of hope but it seems now that tomorrow it will just be a matter of how long it takes Australia to get the remaining 4 wickets.

And it's all over in Adelaide. Australia win by 218 runs. Johnson man of the match again for his 8 wickets in the match. England will have to find something very quickly if they are to stand up in Perth, which is traditionally their least favorite venue in Australia.
Big question for both sides is with the short turnaround will they need to make changes to the bowling attack.
Panesar will come out of the side for England probably for Bresnan but will Broad and Anderson be able to recover after bowling big overs. Also will Stokes get another chance at 6?
Australia have 2 bowlers on standby should any of our quicks not back up.

England have no chance of winning this series now. They've only ever won once in Perth and that was over 35 years ago while Australia has won the last 6 Ashes tests there.

England have no chance of winning this series now. They've only ever won once in Perth and that was over 35 years ago while Australia has won the last 6 Ashes tests there. Couple this with the fact that the last team to come from 2-0 down to win The Ashes featured names such as McCabe, O'Reilly, Oldfield & Bradman means that Australia really are in the box seat.

Again England has us on the ropes & again they took their foot off our throats. Haddin (again) & Smith saved the day.

Australia wins the series with two still to play.
This turned out to be a straight-up ambush. I doubt anyone was expecting this to happen.

AND THE URN RETURNS HOME!
Australia have won back The Ashes. After some nervous play in the morning session we came out after lunch & finished the English resistance. The better team has won these three tests. Steve Smith man of the match for his century in the first innings when it mattered most. Johnson with 4 wickets in the second innings.
Clarke caps his 100th test with the urn back in our possession. Cook will want to forget his 100th after his 2nd innings golden duck.
What a turnaround from where the two teams stood just 4 months ago.
Now we break for Christmas & it is on the Melbourne for Boxing Day.
