He was a big star in the AWA. What a character. If you've never seen it, seek out his 'Pine Box' promo.

No father should have to outlive their daughter. RIP to a legend, give Luna a hug for us. Luna was Mad Dog's niece. Luna's father was Paul "Butcher" Vachon.

This is MAJOR news here in Quebec this morning. It is a top news in both sports and regular press. I've heard or read all the major political people mention it. Even the archbishop of Montreal said his word on him.
My Facebook exploded, too.
Mad Dog Vachon is one of those characters that people know even if they aren't fans. Just a classic. The Montreal heel personnified, and yet, he had all the technical savvy to be a face here. But he saw a niche, and was able to have a career in the States with that great character of his. In the 80's he came back here and people couldn't boo him so he turned face. He famously said that he had worked so hard to be hated and that visibly, he had failed.
RIP.
His last match in 1986 in by then WWE-controlled International Wrestling of Montreal. Mad Dog Vachon & Jos Leduc VS Gilles Poisson & Man Moore (w/Eddie Creatchman), with Killer Kowalski as referee. WWE had turned the promotion into a nostalgia act after taking all the young talent to their own roster, but this is one thing they did right.
In a sad irony, Mad Dod says in the post match interview that he felt fortunate he got out of wrestling "with all his pieces" while men he knew like Don Leo Jonathan & Johnny Valentine couldn't. Of course, Mad Dog later lost a leg when he was hit by a car.

RIP Mad Dog Vachon
He was my gym teacher's favorite wrestler. In the 90s when I was a grade school wrestling super fan and would rent as many old tapes as possible, I watched a lot of classic AWA. My gym teacher would throw out these references to Vachon and I would catch them.

Not going to lie pretty much the only things I know about him are being from the Vachon family and having Diesel tear his prosthetic leg off.
RIP nonetheless.
