With his last run I really don't want to see him back again, to be honest he's had a great last run in 2003 as the condescending, Hollywood Rock, which is still one of my favourite gimmicks of all time, so why did he need to come back for the Cena stuff?
I know this comes across as Youtube comment levels of emptiness but what else does The Rock have to do, he's a pretty damn good actor so why can't he just stay at Hollywood where he belongs?

I'd love to see a match with Orton.

Strongly disagree. The Rock is the only reason I ever pay attention to the WWE anymore.

He'd benefit from being brought down to Brock's level - still a big deal, just doesn't have to be in the main feud or the closing segment of the show.
The Rock interacting with Rhodes Scholars was great. I don't think it'd be a waste, at this point, if he spent the next few appearances interacting with Bryan or Dolph or The Shield. Eventually, he'd have to take a long break to avoid becoming Mick Foley but I still think he has a bit to offer.

I'd love to see a match with Orton. So would I but other than Orton who else could he face now that is on his level? We've seen him face HHH, Show, Cena, Punk, Lesnar & Taker before. Rey is always injured and lets face it will be lucky to wrestle at another Wrestlemania at this rate. Bryan is a face so doubt we will get a face vs. face match. I wouldn't mind seeing Rock vs. Orton at WMania XXX but other than that he doesn't have a lot of options for future oppenents other than rematches.

The feud with Cena could have been better, but WWE seemed intent to make sure neither really looked bad. So Rock's promos became Fruity Pebbles kids like you! and Cena's became "I'm here, you're not, so there." Both guys showed hints at having better things to go off of, but they were both dropped in short order.

The Cena stuff was pretty much on par with everything else the Rock has done in the WWE. I personally don't see how his last run can be looked at negatively. They can still do a lot of things with the Rock--even if some of it might be retreading. I certainly wouldn't complain if him an Austin happened to show up on the same show together or something of that nature.

You know as a fan I agree with you, Ratetankmark. From one perspective you can look at his last run as one more of the more annoying times to be a fan. WWE with their non-stop shilling of the match and Rock's movies. However try to see this from the Rock's perspective. Rock's heritage is wrestling. He owes his acting career to wrestling. There are a number of fans who may not have seen Rock in his prime (sad as that is to think about)and only know Rock from the games or youtube videos. I think WWE went overboard with it, but that's WWE in general nowadays. Nonstop shilling for their crap.

I wish Rock and Triple H would have one last match together. Mark me cynical, but those two grew up in the WWE right around the same time. They were in the lower card together. Feuding mid-card factions together. Then both put on GREAT main events together, and they did it year after year without getting stale ONCE. Both should retire in the same match against one another, I'd mark out like a little boy.

I think it would be fine as long as he doesn't main-event Wrestlemania again. It was disappointing to see a big part of the roster, those who appear every week and get fans invested in their characters, get pushed aside at the biggest event for him. Actually, same goes for Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Undertaker. I know it's a business, and getting The Rock to main event was definitely the best business decision, but disappointing nonetheless.

I agree. I don't hate Rock, and I wasn't against him coming back for a few big matches. However, I think it's better for the WWE that he stays away.
I think a large part of the reason that people started to tire of his comeback was how desperate it made the company look.
It wasn't: "We've got a jammed pack RAW tonight, and on top of it all, The Rock is making his triumphant return to the WWE."
It was: "The Rock is here! the Rock is here! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is here! Stay tuned for a preview of his new movie!"
It's like that episode of Seinfeld where George tries to pass off a picture of Elaine's friend as his deceased fiancee in order to prove to women he is dateable. WWE's intentions for Rock seemed to purely be an effort to "show" mainstream Hollywood that they had a power player on their team, rather than using the attention Rock would bring to boost the show in general and prove to mainstream audiences that RAW is must-see weekly TV.
He is a huge draw of course, and having him back doesn't hurt, but I think the WAY in which he was brought back and used wasn't going to be good for the long term strength of the roster and the company.

"Divorce layers 'round the block...." and "I don't need to write notes for my promo on my wrist" were pretty hardcore, definitely stuck out from the rest of the stuff. I think they had some legit dislike for each other so keeping it light/focused on certain things was kind of necessary for them to work together without getting into a HBK/Bret situation. Or, maybe they're best pals and I got worked, jack! Who knows?

When the Rock started talking about how Cena took a pot shot at him for leaving and how he disrespected his family and heritage, and Cena's response was "what, you don't like me because of my shirt colors?" it pretty much set the tone for how they were going with it. They wanted to make Hogan/Rock out of it, but they were only willing to keep it at the most superficial of feuds possible.

Bring him back occasionally to have marque matches. It'll work a treat. He's still box office, so it makes no sense not to utilise that.

As a big fan of his I agree. He has nothing left to prove in wrestling and should resume pursuing his acting career. He went out the way he wanted to: Passing the torch to the next guy and bowing out gracefully.

I loved Rock/Punk. Didn't like either Rock/Cena things, except for Rock's random win. That was hilariously out of nowhere and it got me marking out, I admit. The feud with Cena could have been better, but WWE seemed intent to make sure neither really looked bad. So Rock's promos became Fruity Pebbles kids like you! and Cena's became "I'm here, you're not, so there." Or, maybe they're best pals and I got worked, jack! Who knows? I remember everyone thinking Rock was going easy on Cena until months after the actual feud news of Cena's divorce came out and we were all more or less convinced that Rock is a goddamn prophet. No idea if Rock knew about it or if that was just a funny coincidence, but holy shit it's funny in hindsight. ROCK CUTS A PROMO ON YOU GETTING DIVORCED. YOU GET DIVORCED. I don't think they actually dislike each other to be honest, it kind of felt like they were trying to sell the feud based on the idea of them disliking each other in real life which felt...boring. Punk/Rock felt more fun because it was more about their characters and less about the actors. Just Punk being Punk and Rock being Rock.

I was stoked until he stunk up the joint with his matches. Even Cena couldn't carry him to a decent match.
