This could be fun. If the Undisputed title had stayed the main championship and Eric Bischoff had never handed Triple H the big gold belt, AND if the MITB ladder match had never been created, what would the WWE title lineage look like?
Obviously a lot of people would have never been champion in this scenario. For instance, I don't think the JBL mega push and title reign would have ever happened. I think Eddie would have still been WWE champion, but not Benoit. WM20 would have ended with Eddie beating Triple H for the WWE championship.
What do you think would be different?

The first few years are tough (would they put HHH over Lesnar?), but after 2005 or so, I think it basically would've resembled the actual WWE Championship history.

I guess Orton would have been made the future by winning the belt at mania 21 and not Cena or Bats. We will have gotten no real Eddie exploitation. which can be seen as a positive. I figure Orton and Cena will rotate as the face WWE champ for 2005-2007 and everybody will turn heel to get their turn as the heel of the month for our babyface champions.

Orton flopped as face so utterly, it'd would've been the same regardless of the context in which he turned; he had no idea what to do as a face. It wasn't his fault either, he was pretty much just directed to abandon everything that had ever gotten him a reaction. Interestingly, given what's now known of Hunter's initial attitudes to Cena, and his dropping the WHC to Batista at WM21, I'd wager that the rub would've first gone to latter. Though, it would've done more damage to Big Dave in the long-run, considering the tucked him away on Smackdown! after realizing he was truly ready to carry the company, and that wouldn't be an option in a unified, 1-title system. Oddly, there'd be parallels with Ryback or The Miz, methinks.

CM Punk's 434 day reign would've been that much more epic.

I think it's safe to say we would've stayed with the same Lesnar Era we got from 2002 to 2004 (The feud and title changes with Angle, etc.).
After that, I wanna say it would be Eddie or Benoit but I can't see WWE signing Goldberg and him not getting the big belt.
Anyway, it doesn't matter cause whoever is the post-Lesnar Champ, they fall to Triple H. (Sorry JBL)
Of course, HHH not having the Championship in 2003 makes the existence of Evolution kind of useless...ugh, my head hurts. Let's say Evolution happens anyway. The Orton and Batista reigns happen.
As it happened, Batista gets injured and has to vacate. I think we'd end up with Cena vs. HHH there.

First Time WWE Champions Post split (so no Angle, Trips, Rock and the like)- Lesnar
- Guerrero
- JBL
- Cena
- Edge
- RVD
- Orton
- Jeff Hardy
- Batista
- Sheamus
- Miz
- Punk
- Mysterio
- Del Rio
- Bryan
World HeavyWeight Champions post split (not counting WWE champs prior to it- Goldberg
- Benoit
- Orton
- Batista
- Mysterio
- Booker
- Edge
- Khali
- Punk
- Cena
- Jeff Hardy
- Swagger
- Ziggler
- Christian
- Henry
- Bryan
- Sheamus
- Del Rio
Obviously many of Edge and Cena's runs would not have happened, JBL never would have gotten the belt but I could see him challenging, same for Punk, Miz, Bryan and Khali. Mysterio and Swagger would have never sniffed the title scene. Christian probably would have gotten a shot against Edge but I don't think he'd have gotten the title. Ziggler and Sheamus would be looked at as future champs instead of multi-time title holders.

I actually think Batista would have never been champ. The face turn and feud with HHH probably still would have happened, but some time in 05 he would have turned heel again and been another monster for Cena to overcome the odds against. Basically he would have been Ryback.

I guess is the main event of WM 20 would have been Eddie vs HBK vs HHH. The Eddie held the belt until he dropped it the line to HHH. Hunter holds the belt to mania where he loses to a freshly turn rumble winner Orton.
From here, I'm not sure where you go. Since you still have Cena on the other side. I guess Orton will drop the belt in like july to a Heel Eddie or something. He transitions the belt to Cena to get his hero moment. Then the main event of mania 22. will be Orton vs Cena. Face vs Face.
God that made my head hurt.

Basically he would have been Ryback. I don't think he would have reached the levels he did but with all the support he had backstage and popularity during the stuff with Hunter, I think he would have had at least a short run as champion.

Honestly, I think splitting the World title into two was one of the worse ideas the WWE ever had, partially because you've had quite a few now-meaningless runs with like Jack Swagger or Dolph Ziggler where it makes you think "That guy was a world champ?!", when you see their pushes ended and such.

I doubt they would have had a brand split, but if the split did happen, then this just makes my head hurt,
