As weird as it is to say, It's kind of sad that something like this can never happen again. Imagine if Ambrose just walked out after AJ's match and beat the shit out of her with a chair. The ground would melt beneath his feet with the amount of heat he would produce. Even though it's not man on woman violence. Michael Cole making fun of Jerry Lawlers dead mom or CM Punk making fun of Jerry Lawlers heart attack during his return was pretty offensive and an evil bastard thing to do.

Yeah but the biggest man on woman violence that needs to happen now would get a face reaction. Someone needs to deck Stephen anyway.

I seem to recall a lot of people calling out WWE on letting these things happen on this board even. I guess it worked? It's hard to tell at times, it just sucked that the heat seemed to go on the wrong people in both instances.

More people were calling out on the Punk thing just because it was the only way for Punk to get real heal heat based on his forced heel turn that nobody wanted. The other thing he did was to get heel heat was to make fun of the local sports team or win Yankee Pinstripe gear in Boston. Then they were back to cheering him 5 mins later.

I thought it was sublime. JR sold it absolutely beautifully by openly suggesting that something had gone wrong in Austin's mind. That conveyed that Austin had simply gone insane. No evil plots, no byzantine masterplans or any bullshit like that. Just one guy having a mental breakdown.

And people still cheered Austin because WHY THE f*** NOT? Because wrestling fans like watching men beat up women. It certainly explains how the Dudleyz turned face in 2000.

Honestly, I have a much harder time watching the unprotected chair shot that Jeff takes. I get that this was before people fully understood the effects of concussions but knowing what I know now, I can't help but think, "For the love of God, put your hands up!" every time I see it.

The Hardys and Lita annoyed me immensely with their "Team Extreme" goofiness, particularly the incredible falling Jeff jumping off ever increasing heights which got old quite quickly for me, so I was fine with them getting their asses kicked. Lita was always getting involved in their matches so she was fair game I should re-watch that segment at some point actually - I remember re-watching the Trish dog segment years after seeing it live, and wondering how the hell I had been OK with that at the time

It worked, because it didn't just establish HHH and Austin as psychotic magnificent bastards, but in an instant Kane and Undertaker were big goddamn hero faces. I miss the good old days where heels could actually get enough heat to get the faces damn near unanimous support from the crowd. It's the milquetoast world of entitled offended we live in today. The reaction watching should be abject disgust in the heels. But in real life, people shouldn't be so retarded they think its real, and the company and performers should have to ham-fistedly apologize. But I realized the level of ridiculousness this world had come to the moment people expected --and got--Tiger Woods apologizing for having an affair on his wife. Like he owed anyone anything. This is a tangent, but my family has been big on Tiger Woods for years and my father has been playing golf for a long time. When the initial story broke (that he crashed his car in the driveway or something) we were all worried because the story was so vague and it sounded a bit serious at the time. When the truth came out, we were just happy that he wasn't seriously injured. So yeah, who cares about cheating in comparison?

I myself was just offended that there were people that felt like Tiger owed them --and not his wife, mind you--some sort of explanation. Like he, by being being a flawed human being, somehow betrayed THEM.

No evil plots, no byzantine masterplans or any bullshit like that. Just one guy having a mental breakdown. THIS I loved that Austins turn was not some master scheme but that it was a culmination of one mans sanity betraying him. And him pretty much killing Lita just cemented to me atleast exactly how far WWE was willing to push this to get the fans to accept Austin as the vile sick evil bastard he had become...but nope he was still the anti-hero badass to everyone...and him beating down these happy go lucky people just made him that much more badass and cooler.
