A wrestling fan wondering if he's too nit picky on the internet?! Say it ain't so!
I went to AAW's Windy City Classic IX last night and there were a couple of things that bothered me. This isn't a show quality question, but rather for a spot and some follow up that they did. I'll give a little backstory, if it helps.
They've been having a feud with Christian Rose and Marek Brave for a while now. It's the personal, blood feud type deal. Family involved, that kind of thing. Street fights. Just tons of stiff, weapon filled brawls. Last night Marek made a run in to save Angelus Layne (who was announcing her return from a serious concussion, legit) from Rose's beat down. They announce another street fight which becomes a loser leaves town match. The finish happened with Rose on his knees taking a really vicious looking, unprotected chairshot straight to the head. The chair was completely mangled. Marek gets the pin and the match is over.
Our very next segment is the finals for the AAW Allegiance Tag Tournament. Earlier in the night, Jimmy Jacobs and Silas Young beat Irish Airborn to make the finals. Jimmy took their spike tombstone finish and after got carried out. They announce Jimmy has a concussion and is out for the match. Well, midway through he fights through a crowd of referees and helps Silas. He ends up taking a bunch of head kicks, DDTs, etc. In the end, Jimmy and Silas win. Silas gives Jimmy the trophy from the tournament because "you got a concussion tonight."
Am I the only one that's somewhat bothered by this? I get the story they're trying to tell in both of these cases. I've been to every show this year, so it's easy to follow. But I really think these chairshot spots are completely unnecessary and have no place in wrestling anymore. It's beyond irresponsible given what we know now. And then to basically brush off concussions as nothing in the very next match? Really rubbed me the wrong way.
I'm just curious what you guys think. And please don't misunderstand me on this one. I love the company and everyone involved. This is just something that really stuck with me from an otherwise great show last night.
TL;DR: Unprotected chairshot to the head, next match wrestler announced as out with a concussion wrestles and takes tons of head shots. Overreacting or right to feel uncomfortable about this?
