NXT Thread 12/04/13: Two Title Matches, Two Brits

This week on NXT...

*NXT WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Paige (c) vs. Natalya
*Aiden English vs. [Jobber not identified in spoilers or on preview]
*Tyson Kidd vs. Leo Kruger
*NXT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Bo Dallas (c) vs. Adrian Neville

In addition, Antonio Cesaro has apparently been ordered to apologise to ring announcer/commentator Byron Saxton for his actions last week.

Natalya has a WWE Divas Title match coming up, will she be NXT Women's Champion going into that match? How will her husband fare against Leo Kruger? And will Adrian Neville end the Bo Bandwagon to become the first British male NXT Champion?

I rather enjoyed all of the backstage segments tonight

If we have to suffer through A-Ry's commentary (you broke my heart with the Miley Cyrus references), can we just keep it exclusive to NXT (and hopefully let him wrestle on Superstars and Main Event) ? I get that he's supposed to be a color guy, but compared to others like Regal, King, JBL, Booker, Striker and even Miz, Riley just seems like a play by play guy who happens to be a wrestler rather than an actual color commentator. He has a personality and he's funny ("The Man That Gravity Forgot, and Then Remembered"), but he just blends in too much with the PBP guys like Saxton, Phillips and Renee.

Another thing about Riley is that I felt embarrassed for him when he did not make any move to intervene when Cesaro accosted Saxton and then chewed out Tom Phillips for "not helping" when he's the one who is the trained wrestler.

Tyler Breeze had me at "Total Uggo" and "kind of a fatty".

Sylvester Lefort and Scott Dawson are back!

I love Aiden English's singing entrances.

I know that people say Cesaro should turn face because of his amazing in ring performances, but he just looks so smarmy and disingenuous that he just works as a heel.

Here we go with my weekly thought on NXT:

Can't wait for Regal v. Cesaro.

I'm not sure where the backstage interaction between Cesaro and Kruger is leading, but perhaps it could lead to Leo being repackaged as we saw in a promo released recently.

I think the ring announcer was Devin Taylor. She didn't sound very natural as a ring announcer.

I much prefer the announce team of Regal-Young-Phillips. I don't mind if Saxton is in there instead of Phillips.

The Natalya/Paige match was my favorite part of the show. They were given more time than most WWE Divas matches and Natalya did things we don't see much from her on the main shows. I'm a bit surprised Natalya put Paige over cleanly. I really liked that they hugged after the match. Both Divas looked really good.

The main thought I had during the Rusev/Lana backstage segment with Tyler Breeze was that Lana could pass for Tyler Breeze's Russian twin. I guess we'll get Kassius Ohno's final NXT match next week versus Rusev.

We saw Mr. Mojo Rawley backstage. He looks kind of funny when he smiles. Just a thought. Anyway, we also saw the hilarious Sylvester Lefort. Looks like Scott Dawson will be the next victim of Mr. Mojo Rowley.

I really missed William Regal on commentary during Aiden English's match. He's so great fawning over English.

Cesaro came off well to me in his interaction with Saxton. Sure, it wasn't much of a segment. What I was impressed with is how well he came off carrying a talking segment. He had a lot of command while speaking. I definitely could see him as a legit main eventer.

I liked Leo Kruger/Tyson Kidd. They told a good story. I'm not crazy about Sami Zayn distracting Kruger since Zayn is a babyface, but Kruger did attack him earlier, so I guess it makes sense.

I don't understand the feud between Hunico y Camacho and the Ascension. They are both heels. Please end this feud.

Pretty good main event. I loved the crossbody to the outside from Neville. I guess he'll get a rematch for winning by countout? I wouldn't mind seeing him get another shot.

Okay, that's it for this week.

Kruger is back as a heel I think. He's the Alicia fox of NXT. Also Hunico/Camacho are babyfaces.

- The divas match was great of course, but i didn't like the "hugging it out" after the match
- Aiden English squashed some random guy
- Byron Saxton deserved what happened to him, how dare he disrespect #MURICA
- Kidd vs Kruger showed us the Canadian Teamwork at its finest
- The main event wasn't anything special, Bo Dallas is still the NXT champion after 200 days & I'm not sure if this is impressive or sad

As if I didn't hate Riley enough going in... he keeps going on about Miley Cyrus during Paige/Nattie, and gets pissed when Renee and Byron no-sell the reference, and then rags on Sami Zayn for getting involved in Kidd/Kruger, even though Kruger jumped Zayn in the previous segment. He even blamed Tom Philips for not helping Byron. It's almost as if he feels he's being punished for being given this role, and wants to take it out on all of us.

He is, and it's sad, and admittedly pathetic. . And the worst part is that it's not ENTIRELY his fault. He feels like he has something to prove to the brass (that he has charisma and personality and he does) and he's fighting an uphill battle and losing.

Please WWE, just pull the plug on him as a commentator and let him get back to wrestling.

You're right. Alex Riley was terrible all night. I especially didn't like him asking Phillips why he didn't help Byron Saxton. Phillips should have turned the tables on him and asked why he didn't help since he was close by and since he's a WWE Superstar.

Probably the worst NXT in long time. Not awful, but also not on the standard we're used seeing IMO.

Nattie - meh, boring. At least Paige won, a slight upset in Nattie's birthday year.

Mojo Rawley - cringeworthy, just bad. I imagine that this taping was before Scott Dawson got injured?

If they have to do an Aiden English squash every episode, at least work on the intro & encore lyrics a bit. Generic lines ftl.

Tyson Kidd winning in the most predictable way.

The main event was pointless after weeks of buildup. Are they trying to recreate main roster title matches from last 4 months? Buildup, buildup, buildup, buildup... random lame ass finish.

Poor "Matthew" Saxton, he should be someone's manager if they don't want him to fight. There are already enough announcers, he can be utilized better. He's a good commentator but he was money on NXT the reality show.

And then there's Alex Riley. Are you serious bro? How can someone get worse and worse every week. He was good the first time he was on the commentary and now he's "Tony Dawson x2 turrible".

I love Riley and want to see him be successful, but I seriously can't defend him constantly stinking up Commentary. We all know the real reason why he didn't help Byron, because the company seems intent on making him insignificant, even compared to the lowest jobbers. Personally I think that Riley SHOULD be the one getting some shine in this Program with Cesaro instead of Regal. But the dude seriously did himself no favors. I legit cried watching him suck. He's the drizzling shits. I will always love Alex Riley the Wrestler, but this person I see week in and week out on commentary is not the man I became a fan of. He's total garbage.

What was going on with the announcing this show? Usually it doesn't bother me too much (or maybe I just tune it out), but good god they were terrible. Alex Riley constantly going on tangents about asinine shit. Along as him and the female announcer putting over Bo Dallas as a face during the main event. They were awful.

I agree. I made a note of that a couple weeks ago. Last week I gave Renee Young a pass since Bo was on commentary with her and I thought she was being a bit playful and sarcastic, just going along with Bo since he was there. This week she kept saying how she was a 'Bo-liever.' All of the commentators said this a few weeks ago when he returned from his world tour. I definitely think we need a straight play-by-play announcer who can see through heel's delusions and lies. This person is ideally the voice of the viewer, saying what they're liking thinking. Lance Russell, Jim Ross, Gordon Solie, and even Gorilla Monsoon have done this in the past.

That was Paige's best match in NXT so far. Didn't have the high stakes of the Emma match, but the action was really good.
