Today is Mr. Hughes' 49th birthday. Let us honor the career of this legendary non-legend.

He is apparently a really good trainer which is weird because I never remember him having a good match. Honestly the only moves I remember him doing was the sidewalk slam and the chokeslam and the latter was only when he had the 911 feud. He was one of those guys who seemed to always have a job without having much talent.

He trained Heath Slater.
There was also that whole S&M thing...

Oh shoot, I liked him in the AWA as The (Big) Cat Curtis Hughes. He had that silly football match there.

He's been around so long it's hard to believe he's just now turning 49.
He must've had some personal problems because he never lasted long in WWF. His 1993 run was about five months, he came back in 1997 and 1999 but didn't last more than once or twice.
He lasted a little while in WCW and had a fair run but left in early 1992 and if he had stayed he probably would've had a larger profile considering so many former WWF guys were coming but only staying a few months.

I've never had a chance to read Chris Jericho's books. Does he talk about having Hughes paired with him as a bodyguard for a short time in 1999?

Didnt he suffer from narcolepsy? I had to admit he had an awesome look to him.

Best bodyguard for hire in pro wrestling history.

I thought he had a great look - he pulled the "wrestling in shirt, tie and slacks" look off way better than IRS did. And he looked tough, which also worked.
I loved his 1993 run (way too short, sadly) and was delighted when he came back in '97, but by '99 the appeal was gone (and being Jericho's toady, in a glittery vest no less, ruined him...)

Yes!!! This thread is long overdue. One of the best looks/uniform in wrestling history.

I love Mr. Hughes. I've been a fan ever since I was a kid.

During his brief stint in ECW, he used MC Lyte's "Ruffneck" as an entrance theme. It was awesome.

Never heard of him.
Seriously, though, I saw a few wrestling matches here and there, and I thought the whole fake sport was stupid. I couldn't believe that people actually watched it. Then I was flipping through the channels and saw Mr. Hughes attack The Undertaker and Paul Bearer. Something just clicked, and I never missed an episode for years (making excuses at first about how I was only watching because it was so stupid, but giving that up quickly since I couldn't really use that as justification to order the pay-per-views as well). Mr. Hughes's look and gimmick were great; the matches were not technically wonderful, but it didn't matter. I just wanted to see that big, tough guy in the shirt, tie, and suspenders destroy his opponents. Then he just wasn't there anymore. I kept watching, hoping he would come back (A surprise appearance at SummerSlam? No? Well then, he'll definitely be one of Jerry Lawler's knights at Survivor Series. According to the list I've made of the WWF roster, they don't have many bad guys left that aren't already in matches, so they have to bring him back. No? Well then, definitely at the Royal Rumble.). I got caught up in other storylines and watched for a few years, but I stopped watching before he came back. Maybe that was for the best.

Mr. Hughes is the best wrestler to ever wrestle while wearing sunglasses(I think). He looked awesome and kudos to him for making a career out of being a fake bodyguard.
