Is it because the bar of wrestling has been raised by quite a bit or is it because wrestling fans like to look for mistakes and enjoy not enjoying the product?
So I don't end up making two threads about this, how the hell is saying someones like an "Indie performer" an insult, I like both indy and mainstream wrestling so why do some fans use the phrase "indy" as insult, the fans in Japan seem incredibly easy to please so why are a majority of wrestling fans the opposite, too much negativity bums me out.

It's because we've seen wrestling at its best, and there's no excuse for a poor product when one considers that nearly every aspect of the business is controllable, if you have the talent available, which is almost always the case.

It's hardly limited to wrestling. Go to most any sort of forum that's focused on any aspect of sports or entertainment and people will be bitching about it, it's what people do when they have a genuine interest/passion in something.

When things go right wrestling fans will be enamoured with the product, current, old, casuals, hardcore, all of us.
When things go largely against what fans want (and I consider live reaction the single most important area in wrestling) then that same passion will go into pointing out how much things have fallen, or how stupid things are.
I mean, I think most of us can agree that 60% of the Attitude Era was either stupid or downright repulsive looking back, but the fan response means somehow even the worst moments of that time period are remembered fondly, and you'll get people defending stuff like THE HAND and Hawk's suicide attempt for that reason, because as much as a few of us may think "well that's stupid/downright insensitive" it still fits the era somehow.
Wrestling fans are no more difficult to please than people watching a TV show or investing in a season ticket for a Premier League team. I may have bitched up a storm about David Moyes managing of Everton at times but I still followed for the inconsistent good games/PPV matches, and much like Everton this season I hope with some re-arranging of backroom staff that I'll feel proud to support a WWE product that feels fresh & driven. (Note: sorry for turning into sports JBL there, but it seemed fitting to compare).

You could ask the same question for any fanbase really.
Anything I've ever been a fan of, I've learnt that 90% of the rest of the fanbase are extremely difficult to please.

I was going to say the same thing. When you're a die-hard fan of something, you expect the best. And the second whatever that thing is doesn't meet your expectations, you get mad.

Cuz people like to piss and moan. This post should have been longer and funnier. Overall, I give it 1 and a half stars.

Cuz people like to piss and moan. No, its actually because, and this is the most bitter pill to swallow for a fan of any genre, the product is not aimed at the educated, passionate, knowledgeable hardcore fanbase who have spent their time learning or wanting to learn the in's and out's of said business and how it *should* organically be told or conclude, because as passionate as they are, they are, and always will be, the overwhelming minority to the casual drone out there who just exists and never questions or expects. There's more money to made be made by aiming things at those who don't question or reason, and who buy blindly and move onto to the next soulless fad, than there is to put the proper effort into a story; or quality into its presentation for those who expect/request it. Business will always trump artistic integrity. And business booming without effort is even more appealing. It's the reason why there's so many soulless sequels. The story's already penned. Hollywood just needs to put whatever flavor of the month babyfaced spaz into it, and they hope Johnny no-standards will be pay 15 dollars to watch it in 3D like a deer in the headlights -- and often he does.

Saying they're like an indie wrestler is a reference to the significant number of indie wrestlers who end up sucking due to being part of a broken system. It's nowhere near as many as people think, but if you're at a wrestling show in a high school gym watching Johnny 'T-Bone' McWhothef*** vs. Jeanshorts Barbedwirebatson, you have no reason to give a shit about either guy because you've never seen them before or ever will again. This means that with their limited amount of time to work and limited opportunities to work, they string together a shitload of high spots to make the crowd pop for the moves because their personality becomes borderline pointless, which is the diametric opposite of mainstream wrestling which is safer, more character based and more promo based.
