This Mero stuff people is saying is weird. Dude was a high-flyer; then he got injured and couldn't do high-flying anymore. It's pretty simple. Knowing the sometimes appalling culture in the WWE lockerroom sometimes, I wouldn't be surprised if Sable becoming more popular than him made people think he was less manly, or something, and people turned on him because of that. Keep in mind for Mero as well (both for why Foley knocked him in his book and for why he was seen as a huge bust): From a Foley comedy show statement as well (and tying into why Foley knocked him so much in the book for his price): When Foley signed his contract to go into WWF, he tried to get WWF to give him a guaranteed contract (similar to WCW's deals). Foley was then told the WWF policy was "we don't give guarantees, we give opportunities". Foley then signed a traditional WWF contract, and the rest was history. Two days after Foley signed his deal, WWF signed Mero to their first ever guaranteed contract.

I always liked Mero and agree with carp's belief that backstage was trying to turn people against him. Personally, I never was much of a Sable fan. She had a great lower body but she looked like someone's 40+ year old grandmother. I don't find Sable too attractive either, but you must know some pretty hot 40+ year old grandmothers. I don't really find her attractive nor think she looks like a 40+ grandmother. I think she looks like someone's bitchy aunt.

Mark Henry suffered a knee injury in 1996. It was from jumping too quick to sign that bloated contract.

Dan Severn was a financial disaster for Vince. A tremendously talented guy who was a total fish out of water in that environment.
Someone already mentioned Tiger Ali Singh, they were dead on with that call-out as well.

Definitely Tensai as mentioned. Really, anytime he's been under contract has been a money bust. The only thing he would have been good at would be to be the George the Animal Steele Jr. character Jim Myers proposed to WWF in 1997 or 98. There will always be two sides. Those who oppose Vince and portray him as the devil come to life and those who praise him as a good man playing an evil character. They cite him with charitable endeavors and paying for his father's legends to be on the roster. Vince's biggest charity work is keeping guys under contract, like Tensai, who can never get over. Never heard this story before. Care to elaborate?

I was going to say Sin Cara , but I do think his merch probably covered the investment of signing him....so I have to say a lot of the more "established" stars TNA signed back in 2010 I mean did any of those guys help increase the ratings or PPV buys or merch sales ?

Currently King Mo and Rampage Jackson have done nothing for TNA and most likely wont do anything. I have a bad feeling that Dixie has to keep them to contribute to Belator or loose her time slot for impact. Why else would she still have them? They're both paid for with Spike's money, not Dixie's (For that matter, so are Sting and Hogan)

I'd figure with his name he would have raked in some cash, but then again he was working for the NWA before this when the NWA wasn't exactly in a glory period.

It is pretty good and seems to cover most of his time in wrestling, just not extensively as it's devoted more to his time as a kid and as a teacher/coach. There's a story in there about meeting Albert, seeing how bald and hairy he was and proposing the idea to Jim Ross. He had a figure in mind for both of them each and JR thought Steele was joking it was too high. That seemed to put off Vince and Albert was eventually hired but with the Prince Albert gimmick. Steele took a Nitro booking around that time and thought of it as closure after being upset over not getting the deal for himself and Albert.

True enough and valid point, but it's easy to forget that Severn's signing was right in the sweet spot of the insanity of Vince vs. Bischoff, and his name carried an odd amount of cachet for a short time there. Vince and Eric overpaid a ton for a LOT of guys during that period, just so the other guy couldn't sign them.
And Severn was/is a very sharp, very shrewd dude so I'm guessing he negotiated himself a pretty sweet deal.

Let me put it this way: Tiger Ali Singh was so terrible, Godfather didn't even bring the ho's. Only thing of note about this awful pairing was the birth of Godfather's catch-phrase, "Pimpin' ain't easy."
Which Jerry Lawler would say about 10 times in every subsequent match of this man.

It would have done nothing for anyone other than get George Steele another payday, which I'm sure is the only reason that he even pitched it. Terrible idea.

And a piercing artist gimmick was so much better? It was better than doing a second rate version of a gimmick that few had cared about for 10 years or so at that point.

Would be safe to say almost not all but almost everyone from WWE who jumped ship to TNA, no spikes in buyrates or ratings and most of the time alot of them seem to be phoning it in their matches.

To be fair, Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle have seemingly done alright for them, along with a few others like the Dudleyz.
