And since I'm bored: PROP BET. Leonardo DiCaprio will FINALLY get that Best Actor award for his performance in The Wolf of Wall Street. Nope... not even close. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even get a a nomination.

The fact that Before Midnight doesn't even get a chance at nabbing a nomination makes me sad. Honestly, I think it'll get nominated for Screenplay, considering Before Sunset did. Anything else is a longshot though.

12 Years A Slave (the favorite at this point) Gravity (my hopeful) Dallas Buyers Club American Hustle Nebraska The Wolf of Wall Street Captain Phillips Philomena Her Frozen (not enough momentum to really contend, but god dammit it deserves a slot)

Wow, I missed this thread until just now. Here's my guess. We will know tomorrow.
1. 12 Years a Slave 2. American Hustle 3. Gravity 4. Her 5. Inside Llewyn Davis 6. Philomena (I haven't seen it) 7. Nebraska (I haven't seen it) 8. Captain Phillips 9. Dallas Buyers Club 10. The Wolf of Wall Street
Dark horse candidates: Rush and Blue Jasmine

Well, I've seen 7 of the 9 so far. AND NONE OF THEM ARE AS GOOD AS BEFORE MIDNIGHT DAMMIT.

I was 8 out of 9 for my picks. Had Saving Mr. Banks in instead of Philomena. For some reason I didn't picture Philomena as a Best Picture nod, but it got one. I was thinking about changing Saving Mr. Banks to Blue Jasmine, but I'll take 8 of 9 picks correct.

I'm kinda sad Saving Mr. Banks didn't get nominated. I thought it was one of the best movies of last year.

Went 8 for 9 since I picked only 8, didn't think Nebraska would get a nod, but there you go.

I waited until very late in the game, but I got all nine; however, I also added Inside Llewyn Davis, which wasn't nominated.

Good overall list of Best Film. They got the majority of great movies that I wanted are in. I would have loved Hobbit DOS to get nominated but that is just my fandom of it taking over there.
Leading actor nominations are stacked, I would be happy for McConaughey or Ejiofor to get it. Its just a case of traking down and seeing the other 3 movies before the awards. But from what I have heard DiCapreo, Bale and Dern knock it out of the park as well.
Supporting actor is just as stacked as Best Actor, would be happy to see it go to Leto, Fassbender or Abdi. Again it's just a case of seeing American Hustle and TWOWS
I am surprised and wanted Prisoners to be nominated for more because I really really liked that movie (along with Mud), both cases as discussed in the Golden Globe thread seem rejected or forgotten about because they were so early in the year. I hope Prisoners gets the cinematography win at least. How Roger Deakins has never won an academy award is a f***ing travesty, he should have won it for Skyfall or countless others. I hope it's his year this year, it's got to be.

Shocked Blue Jasmine wasn't nominated, usually the academy drools over Woody Allen's work.
Otherwise, I did quite well. My mistake for doubting Captain Phillips, I thought it was good but not BP nominee good. Still rooting for 12 Years a Slave.

I'm surprised Tom Hanks didn't pick up any nominations or Emma Thompson get any nominations. You figured Tom Hanks playing Walt Disney is an automatic oscar. Kind of bummed out Tom Hanks didn't get any for Captain Phillips since that might of been his best performance since Forrest Gump. So glad Oprah Winfrey didn't get a nomination,

Out of everything, I'd say the biggest surprise was Hanks getting snubbed for Captain Phillips. I thought for sure he'd get nominated. Outside of that, it's strange to think that Jonah Hill is a 2 time Oscar nominee. Haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street yet, but he was solid in Moneyball. Also, it's strange to think that a Jackass movie is Oscar nominated.

Honestly, as much as I love Christian Bale, there's no way in hell he deerves a nomination over Hanks, Hugh Jackman, Mads or Ethan Hawke. The others I'm fine with in that category (need to see Nebraska though).

I actually agree with the Best Actor nominees. It does feel strange that Tom Hanks hasn't been nominated for Best Actor in 13 years.
I think Inside Llewyn Davis was 'snubbed' a bit, only being nominated in sound mixing and cinematography. I figured it would get nominated for original screenplay and maybe even Best Picture. I know much of the music was not original, but I am a little surprised "Please, Mr. Kennedy" wasn't nominated for original song.

As much as I loved Prisoners, I knew Jackman wasn't going to get a nom, and I haven't seen any of the Before movies, so I can't say anything about that. Also, this is all solely based on predictions & trackers I've seen online. Of the big nominated movies, the only ones I've seen are Captain Phillips, Gravity, & Her.

Looks like Steve McQueen might get that elusive Oscar after over 60 years in the business.
...I'll show myself out.
