Honestly, as much as I love Christian Bale, there's no way in hell he deerves a nomination over Hanks, Hugh Jackman, Mads or Ethan Hawke. The others I'm fine with in that category (need to see Nebraska though). I was honestly going to say that I was surprised Bale was in there. I thought the nominees were going to be Ejiofor, McConaughey, Hanks, Dern, and either DiCaprio or Redford. As much as I loved Prisoners, I knew Jackman wasn't going to get a nom, and I haven't seen any of the Before movies, so I can't say anything about that. Also, this is all solely based on predictions & trackers I've seen online. Of the big nominated movies, the only ones I've seen are Captain Phillips, Gravity, & Her. I knew Jackman wouldn't either, but I am surprised at the lack of Hanks really. Mads for The Hunt and Hawke were not happening, but I at least had hope for Julie Delpy for Before. Bah, whatever. 9 for 9 without Frozen. Wow. Olaf has a sad. Don't fret too much, Olaf. I think you're a shoo-in to go home with the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. I wouldn't be so sure with Miyazaki's last film ever being nominated. Legends get oscars. Looks like Steve McQueen might get that elusive Oscar after over 60 years in the business. ...I'll show myself out. Armond White appreciates it.

Though I never posted, I was expecting Inside Llewyn Davis over Philomena.
I still have 3 films to see:
Nebraska Philomena And Captain Phillips
I am seeing Philomena tonight and Nebraska this weekend.

I know it was a prequel, but I'm still surprised Pixar didn't get a nomination. Only the second time a movie of theirs hasn't been nominated since the inception of the award, and it was much more well regarded than the last one.

It's a dead heat between Frozen and Rises. Let It Go might have a strong chance for Original Song, though.

I find it funny that last year it was a big deal when Silver Lining Playbook was the 3rd film ever to have a nomination in all 4 acting categories and one year later David O' Russell does it again for American Hustle and nobody is talking about it.

I'm predicting 12 Years a Slave for Best Picture, Scorsese for Best Director, Ejiofur for Best Actor, Jared Leto for Best Supporting Actor, Sandra Bullock for Best Actress, and Sally Hawkins for Best Supporting Actress.

I just have a feeling it'll be exactly the same thing as it was for the Golden Globes. Alfonso Best Director for Gravity the technically challenging most expensive art house film ever made that made tons of money but 12 Years a Slave for Best Picture with Brad Pitt finally winning the Oscar. As a producer of course.

The more I think about it the more I want Lupita Nyong'o to win Best Supporting Actress. To have that kind og performance just coming out of Yale and in her first ever movie is phenomenal, she had amazing presence and intensity way beyond her years for such a new talent. I don't want to get too deep but I did study drama during high school and college (but not university) and I was utterly blown away by the ensemble cast and how they worked together. The message and the fact that it is the truest of stories Steve Mcqueen was telling makes it such an experience to view because it cuts so deep and holds back no punches, and Nyong'o played a major part in that. I wish I still did theater in some form or another presently because movies and performances like this make you appreciate how you can better yourself through the character your playing. As you can see in the video below (most significantly in the final 2 minutes and last question of that part) she inhabited Patsey, she became a part of her during filming and as she said will be a massive part of her after. To become this engrossed by someone so much that she got the very best out of her performance first movie in is mesmerizing, she owns the camera when she is shown on the screen with the constant and relentless pain of the character being brought to the forefront for all the audience to see. Anyway, positive rant over, sorry guys . In other words and the shorter version is she is extremely talented, got a massive future ahead of her, comes over very elegantly, this video below is amazing and I hope she wins.

BIG FIVE PREDICTIONS:
Having seen none of these, here's what I'm calling based on hearsay and intuition.
BEST PICTURE: I feel like it's either 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club or Gravity, I'm leaning slightly towards 12 Years a Slave BEST DIRECTOR: Also going with 12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen BEST SCREENPLAY: American Hustle for Original (Eric Warren Singer and David O. Russell), The Wolf of Wall Street for Adapted (Terence Winter) BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE: Haven't I made it obvious? Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street. (Although I'm pretty sure it'll go to Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup, 12 Years a Slave) BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE: I actually have no real idea. Put it in a randomizer and it gave me Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, Gravity.
