www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/IBelieveInSpidey/news/?a=91486Don't know if this came up in the Amazing Spider-Man thread or not, though figured it could probably stand to have attention drawn to it on its own. As for how to feel about this... I'm torn. Venom could work (provided they set him up properly - I really don't know that you could remotely do the character justice if you tried to make him separate from Spider-Man and not initially a villain), though the writer's track record is spotty. On one hand, I love the new Star Trek movies and Watchmen. On the other, this guy also wrote the first two Transformers movies and Ender's Game. Then there's Sinister Six. I... I have no idea how you'd make a movie about them, unless you just make it an outright comedy with them repeatedly trying and failing to kill Spider-Man and failing in increasingly spectacular ways. Plus side, given who's writing and directing it there's probably a distinct chance of them actually doing it.

Here's the problem with this, the whole time kids are going to be wondering "Where's Spider-Man?" It's like making a film all about Mr. Freeze without Batman or Lex Luthor without Superman. Whether they're good characters is kinda irrelevant because the whole appeal of these villains is to face off with the hero. Can these studios stop trying to make Avengers money and just focus on making the best films possible? Everything is a damn setup for another thing that's setting up a bigger thing. I think I'm suffering from superhero burnout.

Just base it off of The Superior Foes of Spidey. Should be good.

I'm not that familiar with Venom's arcs in the comics. Are there stories they can build on that don't involve Spidey?

The character can function on his own as an antihero just fine, he has enough depth for that, but if you strip out the origin of him getting the symbiote after Peter had it you really lose everything that makes the character makes sense, and if drop the symbiote entirely and just make him some mutated beast or something through Osborn, like I'm guessing might happen given some rumors they're wanting his company to basically be a supervillain factory for these movies, then you completely lose the entire point of the character.

Want to make a Venom movie without Spider-Man no problem. Agent Venom is the way to go, he had a pretty successful series, is still popular, doesn't need Spider-Man, has his own borrowed rogues gallery as well

Just base it off of The Superior Foes of Spidey. Should be good. get Steve Buscemi to play Boomerang and I'm in.

I know a lot of people hated Spider-man 3 but it's probably the most accurate portrayal of Eddie Brock we ever got in any non-comic medium. part of the reason Agent Venom/Flash Thompson's been more successful as a legit hero in the role is that Flash himself is a more 3 dimensional character whose actually someone you can root for. I'd be happy if COMIC!Venom stayed Flash Thompson forever and Brock continued being a douchebag villain where he belongs.

Are you trying to imply that that somehow sounds bad?

Are you trying to imply that that somehow sounds bad? Oh, no, that'd be awesome, I just don't expect it to happen. It'd be too much of a change of pace for your average movie studio to do it.

Venom has potential as a spin-off, if they don't mess with him too much when they introduce him in Amazing Spider-Man.
But a Sinister Six spin-off...why?
The only way I could see that realistically working is if some organization or entity has them over a barrel and forces them to do something that's a little sketchy, but overall for the betterment of the majority. Essentially turning them into the Secret Six.
Which if that's how they go about it, I might actually go see that, as it's probably the closest I'll ever get to seeing a Secret Six film.

They can basically make it a Thunderbolts movie. no need for Spidey in that case.

Sinister Six is a terrible idea for a standalone - getting the villains together, making people care about the villains....and then having them all lose to Spider-Man. It just seems needless and frankly, confusing, for an audience to get behind.
Agent Venom is a great idea for a film. They just need to find a way to get Flash Thompson's legs amputated in AS-M2
