And when?
At the tail end of last year I went to the Natural History Museum.

I guess the closest to a museum I have been to is exhibits at several Civil War Battlefields. I go to Chickamauga every so often because it is rather close last time I went there was back in the summer. Before that one I was heading to Nashville one day and stopped at the Stones River Battlefield. I am wanting some-time to head out to Shiloh some point and also would like to go to Kennesaw Mountain.

Just last week I went to Mandiri Bank Museum to attend some kind of book festival. In the end, I'm more interested in exploring the museum than enjoying the festival. Kinda fascinating, looking, and reading, how banking works around here in 1920s or so.

I went to the Evergreen Maritime Museum in October. It wasn't bad actually, a lot of information on the history of boats and ships and stuff. Pretty good museum.
Edit: I tell a lie, last month I went to Jiufen Gold Mining museum. Was about the history of gold mining in Jiufen, had lots of rock samples which had been found in the mines (including some impressively sized nuggets of gold) and some old mining equipment to see.

Nathan Bedford Forrest Park in New Johnsonville, TN.
Probably a year or so ago. It's a great little Civil War park that highlights one of Forrest's greatest victories at the Battle of Johnsonville.

I went to the British Museum to see the Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition a few months ago.
It was really interesting experience which gave you a good sense of their everyday life with items like babies cradles, a whole lot of sex (including a statue of a god having sex with a goat), celebrity worship, fashion taking influence from the past and graffiti which all proved that the more things change the more they stay the same. It was also interesting to learn how some slaves actually ended up having a good life being treated like a member of the family, gaining their freedom, inheriting their previous owners wealth, owning property and entering the upper classes.
Then of course it ends with the surprisingly detailed casts of bodies contorted in pain. The whole thing really made you think, well when you weren't getting jostled along by idiots in the crowd.
And no matter how many times I go there I love the big Egyptian exhibits.

Didn't even know there was a Studio Ghibli museum but it's a place I think I'd enjoy It was one of the highlight of the trips for me. Be warned though that if you want to go to the Museum, you'd have to order the ticket online before the trip itself as tickets to foreigners are only available through certain mini-stores which name I can't recall at the moment. On the bright side, the tickets are rather cheap, only about £10 or so. The tickets are also frames of their films and you get to see one of several exclusive short films that only show at the museum. On the downside, it's a bit of a trek from central Tokyo to Mitika itself although it goes smoothly enough on train.

In the summer a friend of mine was taking her kids to Florida for a beach vacation and she detoured here so they could see the natural history museum at the local university. One of the kids (junior in high school) is thinking of going to school here so it was a chance to show off the campus. Hadn't been to that museum in years but it is pretty cool and they really enjoyed it.

The Chicago Public Library has free passes to all our museums and zoos, so we try to go a couple times a year. We went to the Brookfield zoo in spring, Field Museum in summer, & I'm planning a trip to Lincoln Park Zoo (always free) in the next couple weeks. Last year we went to the Shedd Aquarium, so we'll probably go to the Adler Planetarium in late winter. Want to get to the Museum of Science and Industry again too.

December 2011, the Eiteljorg Museum. It's a great place to visit if you're fascinated by Native American artwork and artifacts (especially the Pacific Northwest), but my brother wanted to see the holiday train display.
