Or how should they go about promoting them if they want to try to cash in on that connection (which pretty much any smart indie would)?
I noticed on some posters promoting Chris Hero for indie shows he is promoted as "Former WWE NXT Star Chris Hero," which seems like a good way to do it. You get the WWE name in there while still qualifying it. Still, I have a feeling people will soon be complaining (if they're not already) about going to an indie show promoted as having past WWE stars and only seeing guy or two who lost a few matches on NXT.

It depends on the wrestler. Someone like Jake Carter might be a disappointment, but I think people going to indy shows to see Chris Hero already know of his pre-WWE work and wouldn't feel that way about him.

Sure, why not? NXT is heavily promoted for what it is - it's on WWE.com, Hulu, and has TV deals in most of the major worldwide markets. It's not like the old days of OVW and FCW where the only real exposure was on TV local to them and whatever got put on YouTube.

For Hero here in the UK, he's promoted to the online fans as "former NXT star Chris Hero", but apparently the plans for the local posters in town will be "former WWE superstar Chris Hero/Kassius Ohno".

Yes, but not as their actual NXT gimmicks. Instead, they should be promoted as the "original" Ultimate Warrior, Doink, or Kane.

It depends. Hero might not need it as much, but they have talked about NXT before and it's on Hulu, so at least it's something.

Considering that if you give the average indy a chance, they would promote on their posters as "former WWE Stars": -A guy who did a few jobber matches on WWE television -A guy who once worked security on WWE television -A guy who did neither, but told the promoter he did one of those things? Yeah, there's no problem with booking a former NXT guy as a former WWE star.
