They show the WWE Championship under the picture of Orton in the Superstars section of WWE.com. They removed the WHC completely. Therefore, it looks like he will just carry one title (WWE Championship) from now on. They spent big money on that new belt. They want it to be the focus. Getting the WHC belt off TV is the right move.

Kind of. Although in no way as important or significant, WWE did discard 40 years of the Women's title for the Butterfly belt and its sad, sad history. Consider all the vile things Moolah did during her Women's title reign, I'm glad they cut ties to her. Yea, its almost as bad as continuing the shorter linage of a Belt whose first Champions were Angle and Benoit.

I don't mind when they give up certain title lineage because they hot potato the titles so much without any rhyme or reason and do shit with the champs that I feel it devalues all that hard work from the past. Like this kind of shit:

Did anyone expect any different? Considering they did away with the World tag titles? Yes, the possibility was there. I have no problem with the Diva's title taking over the Women's title, due to the amount of time it was deactivated or held by that monster Moolah, which makes the reigns look ridiculous by comparison. But truth be told, if they would have continued the World title here, or started a new lineage, then it's destroying a lineage of guys that most of us have grown up with. I'll take the lineage of Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Austin, Rock over; Triple H, Benoit, Swagger and Mysterio.

And the title held by teams like the Hardys, Demolition, LOD, and Edge and Christian, in favor of a title that only goes back about ten years and they can't acknowledge the first champions.

good. Btw I know it was the big gold belt, but I never associated the WHC with the WCW/NWA lineage

good. Btw I know it was the big gold belt, but I never associated the WHC with the WCW/NWA lineage And, despite them showing old WCW/NWA clips, the belt really shouldn't have been associated with the WCW/NWA lineage. The WWE discarded the WCW lineage 10 years ago, thus making it a WWE "Exclusive" title. Discarding the WCW/NWA Lineage was the right move, because when the belt was reintroduced, it was basically an offshoot of the WWE Title. So, Cena/Orton was a match to determine WWE Championship supremacy.

WWE.com is also now listing the World Heavyweight Title in their Retired Championships section.

There is no line of lineage connecting it back to the WCW title, despite all they hype videos leading up to TLC.

Yeah but that's only because WWE preferred the term Divas over Women's. Same with WWE Tag Team over World Tag Team. Given the choice between the WWE title and the world title, the choice WWE would make was always fairly obvious.

I still think they could have called the belt whatever they wanted and kept the real history. The belt during Moolah, Richter and Sherri's run was called the "WWF Ladies Title." The Women's belt was a rename and reactivation under Alundra Blayze, and later Jacqueline & Sable.
As for the WWE Tag Team Titles, funny thing was, for the first 6 months of the brand extension, the World Tag Team Titles were called the WW(F)E Tag Team Titles. It only stopped in September when the decision was made to give Smackdown their belts. The World belts have the real and celebrated history. The WWE ones, with a few exceptions, featured arguably the most pathetic heritage in tag team wrestling history. It's kind of a joke.

So they're getting rid of Flair's belt and just calling the WWE Title the "WWE World Heavyweight Championship"? Sounds okay to me.

When Jericho won, he carried around both belts, but only was one of them recognized.
Jericho was the last WCW champion, but Triple H was the last one to hold the physical WCW belt. Figure that one out...
