Looking back at Nexus and now more recently Shield, this has been a booking element that really nagged me. Why go into a stable with the intention of only grooming one person as the next big thing. Nexus, as hot as they were, pretty much degraded to Wade & Friends vs Cena after Summerslam, and now seeds are being planted for Roman Reigns to go solo.
I mean, I'd get it if one person was just really hot in the group like Batista was in Evolution, but the way it is now, it's a total waste of potential.

It seems like they're grooming Reigns and Ambrose and leaving Rollins to rot as Kofi 2.0.

Every stable has a crown jewel/leader, it's basic storytelling that the others will start to resent him and usually the guy that they want to push gets to beat his ass first.

It seems like they're grooming Reigns and Ambrose and leaving Rollins to rot as Kofi 2.0. I still say Rollins is a dark horse for becoming Jeff Hardy 2.0. It's Reigns that I believe will flop. He's got a great look and a killer finisher, but he NEVER gets put into singles matches. That right there says WWE knows he isn't ready (brother).

It's way to early to tell who will be the Tarver of the Shield. Rollins seems to be headed in this direction, but if Reigns flops, Rollins could definitely benefit. This is unlike, say, the Wyatt Family in which it's pretty much a given that Erick Rowan will have the least successful solo career,

The SHIELD had one amazing year of almost complete domination. They were pretty much evenly built the entire time: Reigns is the powerhouse, Ambrose is the talker, Rollins is the high flyer. Rollins took the most pins, but he also had more singles matches than Reigns. Ambrose got a singles title, but wasn't as dominant a force by himself. And Reigns, as mentioned, hasn't wrestled a one-on-one match yet. I don't think any of them have been sacrificed for the others.
The Nexus? I think the problem there was a HUGE disconnect between the most talented guys (Barrett, Slater) and the least talented (Tarver and Otunga) that led to them being a not very focused group.

He's been protected, sure, but not to the detriment of the others.

No offense to Reigns, but pretty much outside of Cena, DB has been consistently one of the top guys in making anyone have a good match with him.
So the fact that Reigns had a good match with DB isn't saying much about Reigns, it says more about Bryan.
Not to say I think the big guy sucks. But I wouldn't use that as undeniable proof he can measure up to what alot of people are pegging him as.

I remember Vladimir Koslov was pegged by WWE as a future star. A couple of bad matches against Taker and HHH killed that. Once Roman steps out and fight a variety of foes and still brings it, then he will be the real deal. I think all 3 members of the Shield will have strong careers post break up. It's too early to say who will be the breakout star. Rollins feels like the odd man out because he isn't spotlighted like the other 2.

I get the focal aspect point, that isn't my complaint. My complaint is when you sacrifice a group that is hot in an attempt to just push one wrestler.

I think the logic is that one huge star will make more money than a stable, whether that's true or not is debatable though.
