Anybody around here still play that money-sucker of a game?
I've been out since 2008, when I just got bored of it, so I've missed a lot. But I've heard there's been some changes to make it more accessible to new/returning players, and a lot faster getting a character leveled up to jump into the endgame. Unfortunately for me, Blizzard's website still sucks, so I can't really get a straight answer on the details because all they have is marketing-style crap.
So I'm just gonna start a thread asking used-to-be-Crappers if anybody around here still plays the damn game, because I've fallen out of contact with all of my friends who did. And ask all of them, honestly: Is it still worth throwing away 15(ish) dollars a month to play?

Leveling and the like are faster, you no longer have to pay for spell training but you're expected to lock into a spec at level 10 and earn spells based in that as well. Flight paths are EVERYWHERE, and there's actually a reason not only to HAVE a guild but to be active in one outside of raiding/socializing.

I had to tap out last year due to lack of funds, but the game has improved for the better. Easier to level, less challenging learning curve, good end game, and easier versions of Raids are available on the Dungeon finder meaning you don't have to spend hours upon hours learning mechanics of that one boss who kills your whole group when it's at 1% health.

On that note too, LFG and Pick up Groups are easier with improved Looting, Improved LFG, and an overall re-balanced game

Okay, sounds pretty good, I guess. Thanks, guys.
I can apparently get all of the expansions I don't have for only 15 bucks total with the Christmas sale they've got going, and my laptop's apparently more than good enough to run the game, so I'll just ask here, I guess:
I remember threads about getting a FAN Guild going. Did that ever happen?

You can play it for free. I would advise you to play it for a bit and see if you still like it. I found most of the guilds on the Australian servers were pretty dead. SO quit mid last year, but didn't buy MOP, so wont comment on that.

Well, I did it. Thanks to how cheap it was to get all the expansions I didn't have, I've got the game up and running again.
That said, I'm stuck on my own, as I've lost contact with all my friends from back in the day on the game. I don't even remember what servers I was on originally, since I started a new account instead of go back to my old one.
So I'll just ask again, because I can't be the only person on FAN still playing this damn game:
Anyone still around on this damn game? Servers, faction, whatever, post it in here.

Instead you wipe because the DPS tunnel vision on Garrosh at the end and don't take care of the people with Touch of Y'shaarj on them! anywho,I'm Horde on Zangemarsh-Hellscream,but I have not been on much lately and my sub runs out this month and I probally wont be back till Warlords of Draenor drops.

I'm on Cairne US.... my fiancee and I have a guild, but it's just us right now. Not really looking to raid right now, but we do want to be a haven for people who are just starting out or have just recently come back as that's where we are. Haven't raided since ICC in Lich King. Just hit 90 with my Blood Elf Paladin and have been attempting to do what I can to gear up, although I have to say... there are a TON more level cap distractions than there used to be. I'm a little overwhelmed right now, especially with Timeless Isle stuff.
But yeah, that's where I am right now.

Sure, but I wouldn't expect it to last very long. Probably a week for each old expansion you missed and two weeks on the current expansion, two weeks to gear up for raiding and then a month of raiding before I burnout out once again (LFR really accelerated this for me).

You know, I'm not surprised to see everyone here that's posted what faction they're in is Horde...or a panda.
I don't think I've ever met a single person on this game that's Alliance only. Always either pure Horde or both.

World of Warcraft is such a weird game from an atmosphere and world-immersion standpoint, because it does all the big things right but all the little things wrong. Like how all the races have very distinct looks and animations and a lot of personality, but mechanically they're all the same. I played both a gnome rogue and an orc rogue briefly. For reference: Gnomes are basically technicolor hobbits, they're very small, have stubby little arms, live underground and their racial abilities include stuff like escaping snares and nets more easily and headstart on the engineering skill. An average orc is around 6'8 standing straight, has skin like old leather, tusks, all their melee attack animations are big haymakers and cleaves, even with daggers and their racial abilites are stuff like natural resistance to stun effects and a temporary buff that increases damage. The two characters played exactly the same.
Priests are another example of this. Basically every race has their own religion, trolls have a kind of pseudo-Loa thing inspired by real life voodoo, night elves pray to basically a genderswapped Greek pantheon, draenei have something called Naaru which are basically Old Testament angels, inscrutable but mostly benign cosmic beings that are hard to even physically describe, blood elves actually have one of those Naaru captured and wounded so that their priests can siphon power of it against its will, but guess what kind of difference that makes mechanically? Get this, every priest of a certain race gets one unique spell. One. That's it. Other than that, same skill trees, same weapons loadout, same poofy dresses for armor.

Always either pure Horde or both. I never understood why someone would be Alliance only or Horde only. It's like only playing half the game.

Really depends on your server, whether you have a good guild, and in my case....Money. I would create a character and then "Fund" my next alt with the previous one, but due to how the mail system worked, I'd have to stick with the same faction.
