Hey, we're WWE, we're all about having fun, now don't forget to order the next expensive PPV where we'll be having more fun marginalising the importance of the performers, storylines and titles that our industry is based on! And download the app.

Not only I found funny that vince is so senile/crazy that he needs to do something as random as this to mock obama like he was one of the boys or like he will get mad while watching raw at the white house, but also, I found funny that people here get angry and over analyze something as stupid as a wrestling/tv show.
Is like, everybody in wrestling is crazy, from the makers to us the fans

Lame.
If you wanna do it while pimping the app going to commercial, fine, but during a match is counter productive. Yeah, wrestling at its core is ridiculous, but you pick your spots of what you present as such.
If the people calling the action don't care bout whats going on in the ring, why should anyone?
You find the balance of what is utterly silly and what is "serious". Compartmentalize.
The idea of Monsoon's proverbial "winner's share of the purse would help a lot.

The core of the problem is that the people who control this wrestling company don't want to be a wrestling company, but they've never been able to coherently explain what they do want to be.
I mean, you can take it right from the top. Just watch any mainstream interview with Vince trying to explain what WWE is. He struggles to even describe it as wrestling.
He famously said that he wasn't in the wrestling business, but rather the entertainment business, but he's really in neither, because entertainment companies don't even behave in the way WWE do

I have to say I find this idea absurd "If the people calling the action don't care bout whats going on in the ring, why should anyone?" Its like saying if no one in the media is excited by your sports team why should you care. Even if your teams espn blogger hates them and never has a kind word to say about them or even complains that he hates wasting his time watching them why would that make you like the team less or stop caring about them. If your favorite character in a tv show suddenly gets less focus why would you stop caring about the character? This line of reasoning makes absolutely no sense and also it is a gross exaggeration because they took their focus off for 2 minutes does not mean they lost all interest in what is going on anymore than when football announcers interview some random celebrity means they stopped caring about the football game.

But their job is to call the action. Which they weren't doing. And that's something they don't do very well most of the time anyway. So in any other circumstance where a job requires dedication and competency, why would you keep people on who were farting around taking a selfie and as a result were NOT doing their job? That's why I compared it to Goldberg and Rogan taking a selfie at a UFC show. That would never happen, and if it did, they'd be fired. Dana White would not tolerate that, nor would he have his commentators do that in the first place.

So you'd be happy if you were watching football and they cut away in the middle of the action to show the commentators taking a photo of themselves? Not during a break or something but during the actual match. I'm not saying it would make you stop supporting the team or anything but it's still pointless, ridiculous and annoying.

Like BigWill said, it'll be a good day when Vince McMahon steps down as CEO, and while he's stepping down, FIRE THE ENTIRE COMMENTARY TEAM!

If this is actually true, I hate Vince McMahon even more. Not because of the political aspect, but because he felt the need to do this at all shows what an out of touch, dumb piece of shit he is. But one of his best friends is Donald Trump, so I guess I shouldn't expect anything more. Sometimes I resent Steve Austin for basically saving this moron's company. Most of me doesn't think this is true, that it's too dumb to be true...but this is the guy who thrust tthe Stan Enos Kronkie thing upon us. The only reason I'm leaning towards not true is that if it was a rib at Obama it seems like it would have been more overt, as Vince has proven time and time again that subtlety is not his bag.

I almost feel like the commentators are doing this intentionally, not because of their incompetence, but because this is the new direction the company is heading. The performers don't matter, the belts don't matter, the matches don't matter, even the PPV's don't matter. It's all about the WWE 'brand'. The upper management would rather someone download the WWE App and buy some merchandise then actually get behind a character, or be emotionally invested into a match. I mean why on earth do you think we're heading into 2014 and the biggest feud in the company is STILL John Cena vs. Randy Orton? The company doesn't care about creating new stars anymore - if they did they would've pulled the trigger on Ryback, given Daniel Bryan a lengthy title reign, not stripped Del Rio of everything that made him interesting, not pushed CM Punk to the side whilst Rock and Cena made poop jokes. All they want is for the company logo to be on as many plastic covers and posters as humanly possible.

This had to have been Vince's idea. I shudder to think what in-touch-with-pop-culture Vince's best guess at the definition of "selfie" might be.

I've read many a post joking about how Vince is out of touch and years behind on pop culture and current events, for once he's only week behind and the poor guy still gets moaned at. This even had an added bonus of being relevant beyond America's shores.
That said I can understand why people didn't like it, I'm usually pretty quick to moan about the commentators but on this instance I'll let it pass.

Which is all well and good, but without caring about the performers, the belts, and the matches, the brand isn't worth a shit. SmackDown is a perfect example of this - all the star power stripped away, and essentially sold on the brand reputation... how many tapings this year have been in half-empty (or less) arenas? Every brand has a core product that it is built around. Lately I'm not entirely sure WWE knows what its core product is any more.
